Thanks for a wonderful stay.

I was lucky to be able to stay here for the weekend. I completed an extraordinary cycling challenge where I 'everested' Praded Mountain on bicycle - riding up and down all day and well into the night until the accumulated altitude gain is at least 8848m (the height of Mount Everest). Fourteen laps - up and down! What has this got to do with the hotel? Well, I did this ride solo and unsupported and the hotel provided a most welcome base on the route and really I could not have done it by myself without it..The hotel is old style but I like that! My room was perfectly clean and I even had a spacious covered verandah where I could keep my bike. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were willing to satisfy my unusual requests - like allowing me to keep my bike up in my room and ensuring I could come and go at ALL hours! The room was warm, the water piping hot and the bathtub in my bathroom was such a welcome thing after my long and challenging ride. I soaked in it after I returned at 1am! Breakfast was huge and tasty. Some say the hotel is overpriced? Nonsense!! A private room with bathroom, verandah, a stunning view and breakfast for less than 500 CZK a night is great value if you ask me! I simply loved staying here. It was tough to ride away this morning in the pouring rain. I look forward to returning to enjoy it again. Thanks everyone at Sporthotel Kurzovni!

Old, Shabby and Overpriced

Reviewed 2 september, 2016

Looks like a typical, quiet, mountain side 3 star hotel from the outside, looks like a throwback to Communist times on the inside. The reception is old, tired, dull and has worn out furniture in it, should have been a warning as to what the rest of the hotel is like. My sister in law was staying in a "standard" class room which looked like something from the 1960's with its décor, furniture and the fact that the windows didn't even have curtains.! The staff did say if this was a problem then they could pin up some sheets. The toilet didn't flush correctly, the bed sheets didn't fit correctly and the bathroom extractor fan had a mind of its own. There was hair on the floor and even in the bed. We were staying in the "newly" renovated "comfort" class apartment, actually turns out recently to these guys means 10 years ago. Initial impressions were good, key card entry and spacious living room with a small fridge, big bed room with walk in closet, bright bathroom and a balcony. However when you look closer there were marks and cracks on/in the walls, stains on the carpets, a smell from the drains, broken lights, broken dustbin, curtains that you couldn't close, instant hot water only readily available at certain times (unless you ran the tap for 10 minutes), heating that only came on when the hotel decided and we had paid double the standard rate for this (CZK 2500). Housekeeping is a lady that empties your bin and that's it. I can't imagine what the "tourist" class is like with shared bathrooms.! Then you get woken up by crying babies and children running up and down the corridors. Breakfast is a buffet from 0730-0930. You start by trying to find a glass without marks on it before you try some non descript juice from a leaking dispenser. Then you try and choose a cup from the pile of chipped and stained ones and hopefully there is some coffee available otherwise you have to wait, mind you even if it is there you might still have to wait for milk to turn up. Then you have to choose a plate as some of them still have food on them post washing. You might fancy some eggs, these made 4 of us ill every time we ate them so quickly came off our limited breakfast choice. If you want hot food (I say hot I should say luke warm) there are hot dogs and greasy cut up sausages. Officially cold offerings were ham and cheese which were thankfully fine. Bakery was limited to one type of bread (no toaster, jam or marmalade) and two types of CZ breakfast cakes all of which were cut up and when they were gone they were not replaced. There was fruit available but this was tired, brown, cut up and dumped on a platter as if it was for animals at the zoo. For some reason guests were clearing their own tables by placing items at a hatch into the kitchen which quickly piles up, I am not sure if this was actually expected (there were no signs to this effect) or if it was just adding to the spirit of 1960's communism as was the décor. On day 4 a new and more efficient staff member turned up and told people off for clearing their tables. There are lovely adverts for the wellness offered by the hotel. However the wellness area is small, not that clean and staffed by unhelpful people. When asked for a sauna sheet we were offered old table cloths (which would explain why there isn't any in the restaurant). Relaxing music and adverts were provided by the radio due to some problem with their music system and despite having a number of relaxing salt lights they had no candles available. All of the above issues were brought to the attention of the manager/receptionist at various points of our stay. She told us the owner was visiting and all the points would be brought up and we would be informed as to the his opinion of our experiences, this never happened. So on the last day we confronted her when we went to pay our bar/food bill. She told us they were "understaffed, it was difficult dealing with people, they had many happy guests as she had asked them, they are NOT a 3 star hotel more of a mountain chalet". She turned aggressive in her manner and eventually agreed to wave our food bill, sauna payment and offered us 10% if we stayed again as a gesture of good will. The sad thing about this hotel is that its in a lovely location, but they fail miserably to even do basic things correctly never mind what grade the place is.

This hotel is as bad as the worst room in it !

Some rooms should not be offered to sell - they called them "tourist standard" but they are not tourist standard. They are 30-40 years old with any renovation, old equipment, broken lights, cold showers, not working heating when outside is very cold,...I am happy that I did not pay for the "comfort room" because it would be tragady to pay so much for nothing. .

We had a blast, service was great for Czech standards. We had done some cross country skiing and some downhill skiing. Both places in very close proximity. Restaurant had many traditional Czech dishes. Highly recommend anybody searching typical Czech mountain experience.
