Wonderful Family Run Hotel

Reviewed 9 may, 2019

Have been staying with Hotel Gloria Avenue for the past 8 years, on our annual pilgrimage to Lourdes and have always had a wonderful experience. This small family run hotel which has been in operation for 3 generations now --- truly cares about each guest. They are always updating and renovating to, assuring their guests the best stay possible. This year I was staying in one of the renovated rooms that were just completed over the winter & have to say that the room was GREAT. Wonderful bathrooms, comfortable beds, balcony, heating/airconditioning and plenty of closet space. And the meals here are really very well done. I have seen comments about breakfast -- but these were not warranted, as in France and in many countries in Europe breakfast is NOT an "american" experience of overindulgence, but rather a good bread, croissant with butter, fruit and yogurt, coffee/tea and orange juice. The lunches and dinners we have had are always good, filling and more than sufficient. No complaints at all. Services in the hotel as far as WIFI (which is very good), coffee, drinks, snacks at the bar (all good and at very fair prices), souvenirs and such (very good selection and saving you time buying in other places) are all excellent !! The staff and service levels are good, attentive and always caring. The family owners are always around and care very much about their guests satisfaction and contentment. We are there each year with a group of over 80 and with any problem or need, they are always ready and willing to help & solve anything. They have always been helpful with anything from where to buy the best cheese to finding a the best way to get somewhere. I can highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Lourdes --- the value for the money is GREAT & you will be hard pressed to find a better value.

Absolutely abysmal hotel

Reviewed 28 april, 2019

I stayed at the hotel as part of a group visit. It is dreadful, from a room with no daylight and views of brick walls, to no heating available in the room. It was so cold I ended up sick. The bathroom is appalling, no shower available and a bath with no grab rails to assist getting out, it doesn’t really provide for disabled people. The beds were hard through being old and worn, with sheets and blankets and an aged nylon cover. The door to the wardrobe was stiff and squeaked badly. The room was dirty and felt old and worn out. The toilet paper is the type from a public toilet with those tiny squares. It didn’t get cleaned in all the time we were there. The front of the hotel is deceiving, with this being modern but once you get into it, you find that nothing has been revamped since the 60’s. Dark and very dingy. Food is awful, it’s more canteen from the 60’s than hotel food. Everyone gets the same and portions are very poor. It was on many days inedible. Breakfast is a croissant and small hard roll, with metal jugs of coffee, very weak tea and chocolate sat on a table for people to help themselves, unfortunately these are left there to get cold and at most are tepid. The soup they serve is awful, we nicknamed it one lump or 2 soup. Not once did we have hot meals, by the time it gets to your table the food is warm at best. I totally agree with the other poster, who says don’t stay here.

Impressive budget

Reviewed 12 september, 2013

We came here with our tour group and was surprisingly impressed. Yes, it is a budget hotel and we expected an average one, which was a better. First, our room was one of the renovated ones, with a bidet and modern shower in bathroom, large good bed, overall good size room. However, we needed to take one elevator, then cross over on second floor to another elevator to get to our top floor room, so that was a bit confusing to find. Dinning area was very nice, clean, dinner was OK, chicken and French fries. Breakfast deal not so great, a piece of french bread, a croissant, butter, jam and coffee. Maybe better to go out and eat somewhere else if you want eggs and bacon. Overall good location. Its on the main street with nice view, all the shops and souvenirs are further down street towards the famous Lourdes landmark and church, say ten minutes walk. Cafes outside close by.

We went to this hotel as a late booking so had very little time to read about it, but I now wish I did. We booked it for bed and breakfast and the breakfast was terrible. on the first morning we was given one small French stick with a croissant which were both dry with a plate of ham and cheese and to drink we had horrible strong coffee with hot milk and very weak tea. after complaining about our lack of quality breakfast the next morning we had the same again but this time they also served some fruit and yogurt which was not any better. Room service is poor and reception were not very helpful either. I think you get the gist of this as I could go on all night. to some it up in four words. DO NOT GO THERE.

Very mixed experience

Reviewed 7 may, 2013

Hotel is superbly located. Some rooms even have a river and castle view. The reception is nice, there is also located hotel bar which is not expensive. Services are generally very good. Quality of the food in the restaurant is average. Some rooms are renovated. But substantial part of the rooms is equipped as in the sixties. The walls in this part of the hotel are very thin and undamped. Therefore, you can hear everything that is going on in the neighborhood. Bathroom with toilet and bathtube (no bidet) is very outdated. In our room was very hard to set the water temperature in the shower, which was very annoying. Mattresses in the beds were very used and bent. Unrenovated rooms are generally uncomfortable. Its budget hotel, but I expected more.
