The World Hotel

Horrible! We should have left when we walked in. We sent an email about a miss communication asking to extend our stay an extra day since the buses run differently in Laos than Thailand, no one ever answered our email. When we arrived, she checked us and took us to our room. In the basement with no window. We were suppose to have a/c and fans, there was no a/c (which we paid for) and the one fan did not work. The room was really hot which made it uncomfortable. The room was not clean as there was something on the floor and nails sticking out of the floor boards. The door did not seal properly either. The toilet is at the opposite end of the hall from the sink and showers. So you have to walk into this tiny little closet that’s poorly lite and smells then walk down the hall to wash your hands. The showers are gross and unclean. When we checked in we were told breakfast was until 10 am, when we came up at 9 am for breakfast, they were clearing it away. When we asked the lady looked confused and didn’t speak English well so we gave up. I would highly recommend going anywhere else but here!

Stayed a couple of nights in another hostel, wanted to stay a while longer in Luang Prabang, checked out maybe 15 other hostels all over town. Walked into The World first and had a feeling I wouldn’t find any better place for the price. Booked it and continued search. I was right, family room, plenty of light, nice view, en suite, fridge freezer, separate room ( which our daughters immediately turned into her office! ). Great buffet breakfast, free water, tea and coffee all day, help with booking scooters, onward journey etc. lovely manager, communal balcony, good WiFi. All for the same price others were charging just for a very basic room. Only reason not 5*, room not serviced in the week we stayed - still, it was a home for us, not just a bed.

Spent two nights here during our stay in Luang Prabang. Our bus arrived in the early hours of the morning and staff were very helpful in allowing us to check in early and even upgraded our room so we didn’t have to wait. Room was nice and clean with ac and our own shower. Breakfast/coffee included was very handy. We rented a scooter through reception which saved us the hassle of finding a rental place. Only downside about the stay was the bed wasn’t the comfiest but that didn’t bother us too much. Over all great value for money for anyone travelling on a budget!

Our hoster Johnny was very kind and helpful, he invited us to his other hotel for a great dinner! Also they served great breakfast. Beside, the room was a bit tinny and the water weren't always hot but the location is okay. We had great staying.

A fake world hotel, I try to speak open and direct to the manager, to help him to improve his business, he refused and always find excuses not to talk to me. He is more a showman, than an hotel manager. A lot of promises but nothing behind - a big mouth! I would not recommand this hotel to anybody, if no imrpovement and investing some money to fulfill all the promises on the hotel board and the homepage. Dirty bathrooms, bad smell and partly dark rooms without no windows. Some rat cages in the cellar, for backpackers and low cost travellers only.
