Great winter stay
Good well appointed room, House keeping a bit laissez affaire during the stay - reminders were required - but initially on arriving the room was clean and well prepared. Parking plentiful and easy. Breakfast mixed feelings as although the cooked to order hot options were truly excellent, the so called continental breakfast was poor with very limited selection. No evening meals this time of year (Feb) we would probably have ate there had it been offered, Ate out in the town plenty of choice. You need to be fit to walk up the hill all the time - a reasonable walk each time. Young staff very helpful. but need a little more attention to detail and "polish" need a bit more quality control and checklists. Tend to forget things but quickly resolve issues efficiently when reminded. Would stay again and enjoyed our stay, It was pre covid so many of the questions below are irrelevant to this review..
Terrible service and no response.
At 20:22 on the 16th September, we booked for 4 nights and sent a confirmation email to the Mariners Hotel, Silver Street, in Lyme Regis. We received a confirmation email from Leo at 10:13 on the 17th September confirming the booking, cost and saying he was looking forward to seeing us. We drove to Lyme Regis and parked our car in their car park. We walked across the road and tried the hotel’s door which was locked. We decided to ring and heard the phone ringing inside but there was nobody there. We thought that they might be closed for a short while so walked into Lyme to have a coffee. We tried calling from the coffee shop several times but there was still no reply. That left us with nowhere to stay that night – luckily, the owner of the coffee shop came to the rescue and contacted his friend and we stayed in their Airbnb. That was only available for 1 night. Despite calling The Mariners over and over there was still no reply. We contacted over 20 other B&Bs in the area and none were free. We eventually found a retreat about 10 miles away and booked in there but at a considerably higher cost. Some 2 weeks later we have STILL not heard from the Mariners despite many calls and emails. Our rating for this place is so low there is no rating AVOID!!.
AWFUL
Disgusted at this establishment They don’t honour bookings They have closed and not had the decency to cancel their bookings! Very angry What was meant to be a special birthday away ended up being nothing less than a stressful upsetting stranded weekend! They’ve done this to a lot of people according to the local businesses we spoke to They don’t deserve any business Looking through the windows and it looked shabby! The photos online are clearly enhanced to make it look better.
Appalling
We booked and paid for a room at the hotel and received confirmation of the booking. I later checked the hotel website to look at parking options and saw it was closed. What sort of establishment takes a booking they are unable to honour. After days of arguing with Expedia a refund was agreed however it hasn’t been received yet.
Hotel closed and they did not bother to inform me
This hotel accepted my booking and I received a confirmation email. When I arrived the hotel was closed (the next door neighbour informed me it hadn't been open for months). As a result I was stranded in Lyme Regis and there were no other properties with space available. A weekend away ruined by this hotel's failure to communicate. Appalling service - AVOID!!!
