Nice one night stay

Reviewed 22 october, 2021

Stopped here for one night. Nice comfortable room. Nice beach front and indoor pool and hot tub. Wish I had more time to enjoy this property it was lovely. Pro tip:The only thing that surprised me was after I checked in, I went to get a bite to eat and most restaurants were closed. (8 pm). I guess this is off season? I had already driven for over ten hours and didn't feel like driving anymore, oh well just a tip for others that weekdays restaurants in this area close very early.

Good to mediocre.

Looks new and upscale on the outside and in the office. The rooms are in need of updating for the price especially in late Oct. Our first floor room with sliding doors wouldn't lock. There was no microwave in the room even though there was a spot for one in the furniture. The beds and pillows at least were very good.

Housekeeping must re-train and improve.

First, let me be clear. Since Covid begins, cleanliness is my top priority of a hotel. That being said, Comfort Inn missed terribly this time. GOOD - On October 9th, 2021, my family and I stayed at the Comfort Inn Lakeside – Mackinaw City, Michigan. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the two most enthusiastic front desk receptionists. There are the most friendly Jamaicans I have ever encountered. They truly made us feel welcome. We were given two rooms with lakefront views as requested. BAD - I chose this hotel because I had stayed there multiple times. In addition, it is due to the fact that Choice Hotels has implemented its “Commitment to Clean” Policy. According to Choice Hotel website, "Commitment to Clean ... Your well-being is top of mind for Choice Hotels and at our thousands of independently owned and operated locations. The Commitment to Clean initiative builds on Choice Hotels' long-standing cleanliness protocols and enhances the existing program with guidance developed in response to the pandemic, including recommendations related to deep cleaning, disinfecting, hygiene, and social distancing... Guests may experience a growing variety of new and improved cleanliness protocols, products and communications, including: Heightened cleaning protocols for high-traffic areas such as the front desk, fitness centers and pools, as well as other high-touch surfaces throughout the hotel, using hospital-grade disinfectant approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to combat the spread of COVID-19.) I do not want to say too much, just see attached pictures (I also have a video if the management wants to see, it is even worse than the pictures). Simply put, both beds had soiled comforters on top. You could visibly see the yellow/brown marks on the comforter, along with some long black hairs; one bed had a hole in the sheet; and both beds had multiple pillows with cases that had nasty stains/marks. UGLY - After seeing the condition of the room, I proceeded to the front desk and asked if it were possible to receive a new comforter and some pillow cases. The front desk said they would “page” housekeeping and have it taken care of. By the time I made it back to our room, a lady from housekeeping was waiting. She wanted to come into the room and look at the bedding. Once she looked at all the bedding and simply implied that she would not change a thing and told me that “I guarantee that everything is clean; just a mark from the laundry.” I’m not sure how she could say this seeing and knowing they were badly soiled (was it out of line to request clean bedding?). Anyway, she asked if there was anything else she could do and left. After being denied by housekeeping of any clean bedding, I decided to take some of the soiled pillow cases to the front desk so that they could see what the issue was and to ask for clean ones. The front desk seemed to not be surprised at the fact of a dirty linens, room, and housekeeping’s disposition, and brought me some clean pillow cases. SIDE NOTE: Free breakfast has stopped in this hotel. Please update your website as it still advertises free breakfast. In addition, please be honest to customers. The front desk informed me that hotel has partnered with 2 restaurants to provide 'Buy One Get One Free" breakfast. However, when I checked with the restaurants and flyer provided by the hotel; I found out that it is merely a(n) promotion/ advertisement from the “Mackinaw Chamber of Commerce”, and not necessarily in cooperation with the hotel. Upon checking online, none of the “recommended” restaurants could not even break a 3-star rating on trip advisor, in which many people said overpriced and stay away. I did not dare to try otherwise. Conclusion - If you get this hotel for cheap and cleanliness is not your concern, this is a good hotel to stay for a night. But if you need to pay over $200 for a night (Luckily I did not), I will not recommend it.

Road Trip 2021

The clerk that checked us in was very unwelcoming and spoke very fast giving us directions to our room. Our room was unclean and carpet was dirty with visible dust. The hotel description states refrigerator and microwave, there was no microwave in our room. The hotel is connected to another hotel where the elevator is if you need to use it. The stairway hall is dirty and dingy. The check out process was the same. There is no complimentary breakfast offered.

First Impressions Matter

Looks ok. Open door of room, flip on light, immediately the cleanliness of the room is suspect. DIRTY CARPET, stains on carpet. This just always makes me believe there is no regular maintenance or deep cleaning. The room was clean, linens clean, beds comfy, plenty of good pillows, balcony overlooking the lake and beach. Looks like new furniture, fridge in room. Bagged breakfast of water, apple, granola bar. So CHEAP it’s almost insulting. We have not had a bagged breakfast since a stay somewhere in mid 2020, and that was a Jimmy Deans breakfast sandwich, juice, fruit and a pastry. Coupons for local breakfast places available. Watching sunrise was nice.
