Cozy, Comfy, Clean, and Inexpensive....What Else Do You Need??

We stayed in one of the cabins (closest to the road) for a single night, then traveled to Bacalar for three nights. We enjoyed our time in the Cabanas so much, that we cancelled our additional time in Chetumal, and returned to the Cabanas for an additional two nights! The place is rustic, but very clean, well managed (Anna was super nice and helpful!) and couldn't be any more tranquil. If you are expecting luxury at a bargain price, look somewhere else, but the hotel is awesome if you are willing to embrace something a little less mainstream.

Caribbean vibes!

The place is just perfect, hammocks to relax between the palm trees, wood chairs on the beach in front, the cabanas are minimalistic, but this is what you're looking for when you chose to stay in Mahahual, the last place of Riviera maya still not destoyed by concrete resorts...

OK for a couple of nights
Reviewed 4 june, 2019
Well, the Cabanas are a little bit off to the south of the town center (if such a thing exists in a place which is basically one long promenade along the shore). The huts are quite spacious and the garden they sit in is well-maintained. Every hut comes with a few chairs and a table outside to sit and relax. Reception staff is friendly and the ocean front is only a few meters away across the small main road. Prices for the Cabanas are OK but don't expect a lot of comfort. There are no mosquito nets for the beds available. They rather try to keep the little buggers out by protecting windows and other vents with nets which doesn't always work too well, so expect to get some visitors at night. As for the downside, the toilet and showering section inside the hut is very basic and not really detached from the rest of the room. The "bathroom compartment" consists of walls only but without a roof so if you shower then your room mate(s) will hear every drop of water. Same when you're on the toilet, so be prepared! A little side note regarding the seaweed: although the hotel and restaurant owners in Mahahual are not responsible for the seaweed plague it IS annoying to have the smell everywhere around especially when you're lying in the Cabanas so close to the seaweed-covered beach. And the usually white sandy beach is practically in an unusable state. And I guess this is partly why during our visit in May most restaurant, shops, dive shops and hotels had been closed down. It was a quite quiet mexican experience - but if you like being on your own and are not really keen to ly on the beach or go into the water then Mahahual might just be what you're looking for.

Simple place for good price
Reviewed 26 may, 2018
We stayed 3 days in the Cabanas del Doctor. It’s a cheap and simple place to stay in mahahual. Only bad point: they could have clean the room more often. Location is really good, right in front of the beach

Damp Towels
Reviewed 21 january, 2018
The good thing about Las Cabañas del Doctor is that the people are very friendly. The rooms are clean-ish and fairly small. The beach in front of hotel is mostly clean of debris and has a lot of sea grass. The ick part was that the towels in our room were very damp, and the walls very thin. Everything that happened overnight could be heard from our room. But fromi what we saw most hotels in Mahahual have their share of issues, even those in the higher price range, so bear that in mind.
