Between 2 and 3 star
I find the 5 star reviews to be very generous- maybe indicative of high season? I never actually met any staff and can't speak to the hospitality. The rooms badly need updating, though are generally clean. The walls are paper thin and drafty, rectified by good radiators when chilly. As there is no signal on-site and no one actively staffing check-in after hours, it can be difficult to get in touch, though the check-in itself was easy. The location is indeed amazing for hiking Acadia and heading into Bar Harbor
Dusty rooms, requires updating
The location of this inn is great, just a few minutes down the road from downtown bar harbor. Unfortunately that is just about the only good thing I have to say about it. I feel deceived by the number of five star reviews left by the trip advisor community. The room we stayed in looks like it hasn't been updated at all in the last few decades, which would be fine if it was clean and in decent condition.. The walls are thin, you can hear everything. The headboard is about ready to fall off the bed frame, toilet paper and towel holders are separating from the wall, as are other things used beyond their lifespan. The mattress is super soft (not in a good way) and bouncy and you sink right into it, I can only imagine how old it is. The overall cleanliness of the room is questionable at best. There are layers of dust on the ceiling fan, dust on top of the fridge, cobwebs in the window above the bed, etc. Also, I understand that this is a pet friendly place but there was a A LOT of dog poop scattered throughout the lawn.
Beautiful location, rooms come up short on the basics
Beautiful grounds and location high on the bluff overlooking the ocean. Sound of the waves, wonderful balcony...All wonderful until you climb into a lumpy bed and can’t sleep because the walls are so thin you can hear the guest next door snore the night away. If you do decide to stay here location of your room is very important. Most rooms are only accessible by golf cart, which can add a layer of complexity to arrival and departure. Beachfront rooms can be reached by car. To be fair our room may not be indicative of the entire resort. So I recommend checking out your bed before you accept the room. 🙂
Hidden Gem
We spent 2 nights at this bed and breakfast celebrating our anniversary. Great place, clean, beautiful, many walking and biking paths around, lots of historical sights to explore. The folks at the Inn made you feel at home from a great breakfast in the morning to happy hour before finding a fun, new outdoors place to eat dinner.
Nice enough place, noisy in the morning
The inn itself is definitely motel style, with all of the doors opening out to the parking lot area. Sounds did not travel much through the walls, but every morning other guests were extremely noisy starting pretty really in the morning. There is no air conditioning, so we had to sleep with the windows open since it was very hot while we were there, leading to the nose problem in the mornings. The shower is a tiny stall but we had a king size bed in room six which was very nice. We were told upon check in that cleaning service only happens if requested during your stay, which was fine with us, and there were enough towels and toiletries there for the whole week! The market where you go to eat breakfast was pretty neat, and the breakfast sandwiches, fresh muffins, and cinnamon rolls (if you get there at the right time) were great. We did eat the lobster dinner there one night as well, which was very good and very reasonable priced. The staff is quite a cast of characters, some of them very friendly and some not, which definitely made our stay very interesting. Also, a tip for getting around: bar harbor is less than ten minutes away, but trying to park there during busy season is a nightmare after 10am, and will cost you. We eventually figured out that the blackwoods campground bus of the free island explorer system goes by, so if you check the bus schedule you can just flag them down and get a ride to some park locations or bar harbor, which saved us the hassle! From there, you can catch a different bus to other places as well.
