More about the hotel
Great location with an imaginary view, not good food though!
I was stunned when I fist went out to the room balcony, an absolutely fascinating view, overlooking the lagoon (“a fifth-floor room with a sea view” is highly recommended) The hotel is close to everything in Cala D'or, the beach (the hotel is located directly on the beach), the local market and shops (within walking distance) and pubs. Staff are nice with 24hr access to the front desk. The beach water is amazing and crystal clear. On the other hand, there are some negatives that I should highlight: - The swimming pool is small (you won’t need it though with that amazing beach). - Poor food variety and quality. - No entertaining night programs (some small indoor ones in the bar area) To be honest, one should expect these negatives with such affordable prices and amazing location and view!
Good Value for Money -Staff Amazing under difficult circumstances
So we visited Cala Ferrera Hotel on 31st August in the midst of the pandemic (only 24 people on our flight out!) Initial welcome from reception was very friendly and welcoming and the lady took time to explain things to us. Our room was 409, and had probably the best view that we have ever had on a holiday- it was just beautiful. In terms of the room, it was basic, but we expected that. I agree with another reviewer that tea and coffee in the room should be a given, but its not the end of the world. We had twin beds pushed together that were on wheels so if you got too close, they came apart- this was not so good - but again, not the end of the world. The TV had most English terrestrial channels which was good. There was no WiFi provided in the room unless you chose to pay extra (we didn't) and also a safe that you could pay for (we didn't). The room was cleaned every day meticulously- I could not fault the cleaners- they were amazing! We had booked half board at the hotel and after wandering around Cala D'or and seeing how many businesses and restaurants were closed, we upgraded for 15 euros each a day to all inclusive . All inclusive was breakfast/ lunch and dinner with pool "snacks". Our first disappointment with the All inclusive ( and this would have been a deal breaker for us) were the snacks that you could have at the pool. Having been on various all inclusive holidays in the past of varying standards, we have NEVER not had burgers/ hot dogs/ toasties etc provided as snacks at the pool. These were available if you wanted to pay extra for them. I thought this was poor. The "snacks" consisted of maybe chicken wings/ grated carrot/ lettuce and chips. Some days there was fishcake like things and this food was on a trolley all day that you could just help yourself to- it looked VERY unappetising and needless to say we didn't eat it. You could also eat upstairs at the buffet. In terms of the food in the dining room, it wasn't very nice. I am the person who always scoffs at reviewers who knock AI food, and I actually dont have that high standards as we have eaten at some proper dodgy hotels, but this food really wasn't to my taste and by day 2 we just couldn't stomach it. The covid precautions taken were excellent- food was served to you and tables were cleared immediately. The tea and coffee machine was only available to use at breakfast time and no other time of day (WHY????) The wine was not nice and the cocktails were from a machine and like squash. I could go on about the food, however we did recognise that these are hard times, and the hotel probably had a tiny fraction of guests compared to what they normally have, so this may not have been the normal standard (lack of snacks at the pool still shock me though!) Despite the food and drink, the staff at this hotel are amazing. They are ALL super friendly and helpful and I really want this hotel to thrive. Despite the food, I would have no hesitation in returning. Yes the rooms are basic, Yes the food isnt great, but the hotel is in an amazing location,is spotlessly clean and has super friendly staff who make you feel welcome and for that alone, I would happily return. I just wouldn't go all inclusive ! Also, for how much this hotel charges, I STILL think it was value for money despite the food! (Also, they let us stay in our rooms until the very last minute with no extra charge!)
Lovely place to visit
Hotel is located next to a beautiful cove/beach area. Staff were v helpful and put on fun entertainment. Hotel rooms clean and views to the sea recommended. V relaxed family place to stay and see Mallorca.
Nice surprise
We spent our holidays there and we were very much satisfied. In the old reviews were written about missing A/C so we were quite afraid. But hotel was superclean, with A/C on the room, every day cleaning service, amazing staff who were kind end helpfull. All inclusive was super cool! Delicious food! Clean pool, near to the beach! Only thing we didnt like was a lot of families with the children which was too much for us.
