A truly relaxing stay
We had the pleasure of staying at The Limes this January, and we had a really wonderful time. The room was spotless, comfy and absolutely beautiful. The staff are incredibly welcoming and accommodating, so happy to help and very kind too. We had a cooked breakfast in the morning that was so well done and arrived very quickly, and we couldn't have had a more relaxing stay. A big thank you to everyone at The Limes for such a nice weekend.
A great stay in a charming, period room
The room and facilities were wonderful. Gorgeous four poster bed and complimentary Sherry! Very friendly and accommodating staff. As a vegetarian, it was nice to be well catered for at breakfast. Would highly recommend.
Poor value
Stayed two nights to attend a funeral. Reasonable room with some nice touches like sherry (which we did not want) and face flannels. But the room was not made up after the first night and the bin was not emptied. The floor was not clean. Only liquid soap on the wall. No heating. Nobody in the office to complain to. Breakfast was only a little better than basic, and the man cooking had to do everything including taking the money. And we paid £100 a night. Definitely not four star! They are seriously understaffed.
Lovely guest house, shame about room 7
Please read to the end. We had a lovely stay after a false start. The staff could not do enough for you and the breakfast was delicious. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious and there were thick fluffy towels. Our false start: We booked into The Limes for 4 nights starting on a Saturday. We were shown to our room which was number 7 - a twin room at the top of an annex. Having seen some of the photos on here and a recommendation from friends in Maldon who we were visiting, to be honest we were somewhat disappointed. We spent one night in room 7 and it was cramped and uncomfortable and the shower room was outdated and neglected. The beds were extremely squeaky and uncomfortable, the quilts lumpy and missing filling in the foot area, which resulted in cold feed during the night. There was an easy chair which was so rickety I’m not sure it was safe to sit on. Also nowhere to put our toiletries, clothes (couldn’t open drawers) or store our suitcases. So, after breakfast I explained our concerns and asked if they had any other twin rooms that we could be moved into for the next 3 nights. We were very kindly moved to a twin room in the actual main part of the hotel, which was worlds apart from the one in the annex. It was spacious, spotless and had a lovely new shower room with a modern suite and tons of storage space. The beds were extremely comfortable (no squeaking) and the quilts were perfect, with also a throw/quilt for extra warmth if needed. So if you require a twin room here at The Limes make sure you ask NOT to be put into room 7, until it has been seriously refurbished to the standard of the room we were moved to. Photos show the lovely room in the main hotel. I haven’t shown any photos from room 7, as I’m sure The Limes would like to be given a chance to put this room right before any negative comments are put on here, deterring people from staying. I must admit if I hadn’t asked for us to be moved and had only experienced room 7, we definitely would not be returning, but as it turned out, the room in the hotel was lovely and the staff great. We would definitely stay at The Limes again when in Maldon. Also the busy main road was not a problem as there was secondary double glazing which cut out all the rush hour traffic noise. I have given it 4 stars due to the false start, otherwise it would have been the full 5
