More about the hotel
Water off of an evening
Beds cosy enough but when we got back after our evening out the water had been switched off so I found myself needing the toilet and the stolid stench of my excrement really left an unwavering odour in the room. The water was turned back on by the time we rose from our pits. Thank goodness for that because I would have had to get on the train with smelly pits otherwise. Going back to the night before, we needed water so had to walk to a shop just to get water in unknown territory. I felt like Alan partridge on his Christmas morning ramble to Swaffham.
Clean but wouldn't go back
Booked for 2 members of my family to stay here when in Manchester for a concert as the hotel I was staying at was full. Booking process was quick and easy. On arrival, we checked in and were told the room was on the top floor so the 'drunk men can't rape you when they get in'. Tongue in cheek maybe but not the greatest way to start. Had I known how many stairs were required to be climbed, I would have booked elsewhere as one of those staying has mobility issues - there was no mention of the room being on the top floor when booking. There is also three steep steps to get into the property which are very slippy when wet. On entering the room, we found a double bed and two single mattresses on inflatable bases - not what we were expecting. The tap was labelled 'not drinking water' so taking medication was an issue. Whilst clean and the bedding was fresh, the whole place has not been renovated since the 1970's and it felt depressing to be there. Whilst not the fault of the hotel, it was the weekend of Eid Mubarak and large scale celebrations were taking place nearby. These were not an issue, but idiots speeding and beeping horns until 4am was. Then the pigeons nesting in the loft starting cooing about 5:30am so a good night's sleep wasn't achieved.
Value for money
Small hotel with a nice receptionist taking good care of us. Not the fanciest of hotels but it was cleaned and tidy. It carried a small bar in the reception which was nice to have as a service. The location is okay. Quite far from city centre but the buses goes very frequently along the curry mile taking you into town.
You know what, it's alright
Having previously lived a few streets away I've walked past so many times and often wondered who stays there. Well, it's not quite as bad on the inside as I'd imagined. Having missed my last train home I was looking for a last minute bed to sleep in post a gig at the Apollo, and it did the job just fine. Very basic yes, but cost a heck of a lot less (£100+ less than Travelodge even) than every other Manchester hotel that night, and they seemed friendly enough. Would stay again.
Not good value for money
We stayed for 2 nights when passing through Manchester. We weren't expecting the Ritz, but this was below standard for what we were expecting for the price. First, the room had about a foot (just over) step up into the room which was quite dangerous, and very difficult to get into the room. Second, the shower had little to no hot water, despite following the instructions to use the shower we did not have enough hot water for one shower, let alone enough for all of us. Third, despite advertising free wifi the internet was very intermittent, and when I spoke to the person working at the hotel he did not know what to do. All in all I would not recommend this hotel.
