Charming Moroccan riad

We spent three nights in this property , check in is very informal and friendly there is parking in the area but not connected to the riad the manager however made all the arrangements leading me to the lot on his motorbike and then arranging porters to bring our luggage . The riad itself is North African in style very quiet , clean and well located in the Medina . Our room was well presented for a property at this price point but we did feel it was slightly cramped but this tends to be the case with riad’s due to the structure of the building Sleep quality was adequate we found the bed to be too low and too close to the walls . The bathroom reflected the same ornate style as the rest of the property toiletries are provided but water pressure is very hit and miss. There is a complimentary breakfast which is by order the previous day and is excellent the only negative for us was the pool which is very small and more like a plunge pool , that aside we felt that this was a a good choice of property for a short stay made more so by the excellent staff especially sa’eed the manager and sana in the kitchen.

Saeed was very welcoming and accommodating. The Médina is a tricky place to get around so we kindly asked to get picked up just outside the wall so we can be guided to the hotel. Saeed was more than happy to do so. He upgraded our room to an en-suite on the 2nd and 3rd day of our stay which was great and sung happy birthday to me everyday when we woke up 😅😄 Breakfast was very nice, rooms were clean and tidy, and the rooftop terrace was a great place to unwind after being out and about in the Médina for the day. Thank you for being a great host Saeed. Georgia and Adam 🇲🇦❤️

Riad Elias is currently undergoing expansion building works. September 2019. This is NOT detailed on their website or on any of the booking sites and they are still taking bookings. My Partner and I were mortified to arrive to a building site. The riad is being extended and rooms are being added to what is described on all of the websites as the roof terrace (see pictures attached) and the only route to the building site is via the guest staircase. We arrived around lunchtime after setting off from London very early expecting to be able to take a nap but this was impossible with the constant hammering and building works directly above our heads. On arrival the manager of the riad explained that there were some ‘painting’ works being carried out. Unable to rest and hungry, we left in search of lunch and to explore Marrakesh and upon our return in the afternoon we were greeted with the same noise and this is when we realised the full extent of the major works being conducted after venturing up to the roof to check out what is described as the sun terrace! After eventually tracking down the person in charge of the Riad I explained that we were very unhappy with the works directly above our heads and the fact that the roof terrace where we were expecting to spend some of our evenings was unusable! Unfortunately after an initially friendly welcome he quickly ‘switched’ on us and his response was that ‘There is no problem and why am I complaining’ and in his words, “Tough you are here for 6 nights!” at which point he walked away from me. Needless to say that we packed up our things and immediately sought alternative accommodation. Across the board this riad accommodation is very much in need of general renovation. The pictures on all of the websites are obviously many years old. It’s also worth pointing out that this is not a non smoking riad. There are ashtrays in the rooms and the first room we saw still smelt heavily of smoke from the previous occupants. This could have been an awful Marrakesh experience but the best decision we made was to leave Construction Site Elias behind.
Great location and fantastic host!

Riad Elias is right in the center of Marrakech - a 10 minute walk away from Jemaa El Fna. However, you can definitely get away from the hustle and bustle of the city here, especially if you decide to enjoy the terrace in the late afternoon sun, as we did. Our host was fantastic as well. Very helpful and very welcoming from the first moment, he made sure that we felt at home straightaway. You get the authentic Moroccan experience if you stay in Elias, with beautiful rooms in Moroccan style and a delicious breakfast every morning! Would definitely stay here again, if returning to Marrakech!

I'm not too sure if we were staying in the same place as the others who have left fabulous reviews but having just returned home felt I had to comment. I have traveled quite a lot in my life and I've lived in the Middle East but this was something else. We actually tried to get a flight home on the second day, the whole place needs a massive pressure washer over it ! It is not for the fainthearted, nor for the elderly or anyone with children. The bathrooms are a disgrace and really dangerous (pics attached). You can't get anywhere without going through the souk which is really filthy, rubbish strewn everywhere, all the food covered in flies, motorbikes tearing around and the animal cruelty is heartbreaking. The roof terrace is not somewhere you would want to spend time and the so called pool is a joke! Said the manager is very keen to book tours etc for you for Cash only! There is nowhere to get drinks or snacks in the Riad. Oh, and where is that steam room? This Riad is probably the most depressing place we have every stayed.
