Beautiful relaxing place with superb staff
We stayed for a week in a room with terrace. The farm and agriturismo are situated on the top of a hill with magnificent views to the north coast and pine clad hillsides to the west. Terraces face north so trendy to be shady for much of the day. The rooms are nearly all white decor with very comfortable beds and linen. Clean towels are supplied regularly and bathrobes are available. In our room the shower was in the room meaning a lot of condensation occurred which the air conditioning did not really deal with. The toilet was behind an obscured glass door which personally I felt would have better if solid and fitting better. There were French windows to the terrace but because of a lot of flies around could not be left open. Tea and coffee were available to make as we wished. Free pastries and an honesty bar were available in reception. The restaurant is in a separate nearby building with lovely views and breakfast was superb with fresh local fruit including figs from the tree outside. There was a good choice of cold meats and cheese from the farm as well as fresh eggs. Many different local pastries were available different every day as well as a carafe of freshly squeezed orange juice for each table. I could not fault it. Dinner could be ordered each morning for that evening and was reasonably charged. However the menu did not change and whilst the vegetarian starters and the meat dishes were excellent, the fish is frozen and not very exciting. I cannot speak too highly of the staff, everyone was delightful, welcoming and incredibly helpful. I would especially name Eva for her kindness and wonderful language skills. Access is challenging, up a small narrow and at times very steep country road so visitors may choose to eat in for dinner although the nearby town, Ferreries, has some reasonable restaurants at 10 mins away.
Paradise at the heart of Menorca
Quiet place with beautiful views of Menorca. Perfect place to enjoy peace and good food, with a very nice attention to detail. Trying out the cheese is a must! I really felt like I got my moneys worth, would recommend it 100%!
Over priced, no sense of attention and attention to clients, and no extra love
There is a beautiful vegetable garden with these ripe strawberries but we never tried them, they wanted to charge us for some coffee and water from the reception when you pay 300 plus euros a night, no amenities in the room such as enough water when tab water is not drinkable, ... one of us forgot toiletry bag and we asked for a toothbrushed and they looked at as in a rude way... We were three women in the room and it was a pulled out bed, only two lounge chairs and not enough towels. Room was dirty with leftovers from previous guests. We had a plane back to the peninsula at midnight and they kicked us out at noon when they told us that nobody was coming to our room that day or the day after... never offered for us to stay in the pool... and just chilled... no fruit in the room, no little food in the room to welcome... you are in the middle of nowhere....too expensive when you are sleeping in a pull-out bed and no view of the mountains or the sea in your room... no sense of agriturismo... seems like a lost opportunity. The first day they did not offer eggs or any protein.... when we left we learned that we could have borrowed sea googles and umbrellas... they did not offer, All would be ok if this was a hostel but not an expensive place. Not memorable and we will not go back!
Unforgettable
I was meant to write a review a long time ago! Two months + after our stay we still cannot forget this spot in paradise! This was a breathtaking holiday experience for both me and my partner. We will cherish this memory forever! In case you are hesitating on going, just don’t. Paqui, Clara and each of the staff went the extra mile to guide us through an aesthetically sublime, romantic journey. Our room was perfectly designed, finished and clean. Breakfast is the best I ever had. Food was top notch with locally sourced ingredients. And the views, the nature, words can’t describe. Life at Son Vives is simple, slow, relaxing and sophisticated. Costumer service was beyond professional. I would encourage anyone to try first hand. Thank you for everything Son Vives.
Total Relaxation.
Son Vives is located high in the hills near Ferreries in central Menorca and this position affords views of the north coast seacape as well as wonderful inland views. Son Vives has been beautifully styled and is a delight on the eye and on the ear as all that you can hear is the gentle hiss of the constant soft breeze, the occasional dog bark, a neigh from the resident horses and the splash of someone in the pool. You will feel that it is your own little paradise as few people stay on site during the day because they are off exploring this wonderful little island. You will have to negotiate a narrow and very steep road to arrive at this little paradise so if you are only used to city driving be prepared to reverse a long way if you meet an oncoming car..or tractor! On arrival you are met with whitewashed buildings, flower and vegetable gardens and a pool with views to die for. The farm is right next door and is renowned for its cheese making which you can see upon request. There is sense of calm and well being when at Son Vives: if you want excitement this is not the place for you. The silence is broken by an occasional tractor or the squealing of eagles and other birds of prey as they wheel high in the azure sky using the breeze to soar and dip. The rooms are well appointed but for those who travel with a vaste amount of clothes the staorage space is limited. Views from all the rooms are stupendous but ours faced the north coast with a sea view and horses in the field beyond..fabulous. Breakfasts are of a good hotel standard. The only cooked option is eggs..go for the omelette. Coffee comes from a Nespresso machine rather than fresh coffee which we missed a great deal on our stay. Nevertheless, Nespresso coffee, fruit, cakes and drinks - both alcoholic and soft - are available all day from a trust counter as you will see little of the staff after breakfast. We took only one evening meal at the Son Vives during our 5 day stay and it was just wonderful. We ate on the terreace on watched the sunset over our coffee. The real joy of Son Vives are the delightful staff, two of which speak English. Nothing is too much trouble from making up picnics to trying to find something special if you are vegetarian. My wife is vegetarian and the staff mede every effort to ensure she had fabulous food. Son Vives is at the top of a range of hills and is a great place for walking and hiking. Cycling is popular but remember the 16+% hills up to the location. Being older and less fit we explored the island bu SUV! Son Vives is an ideal base for this as the road from it drops you straight on the central highway which crosses the island. For a break that will really relax you Son Vives is wonderful. You will be happier, calmer and ready for your next adventure after your stay: it is not cheap but worth every Euro. We will certainly return.. and they may then have ground coffeee for breakfast! Loved it!
