Chilled out week
We are just at the end of a wonderful relaxing week at the Melia in Cala Galdana The hotel itself is set in the most beautiful of locations. Absolutely delightful beach, gardens and environment. What makes this hotel so memorable though are the wonderful staff. They really are the most helpful and kind. Even in these most tricky of times, they were constantly smiling and happy albeit behind their masks. The hotel has done everything possible to protect their guests in these challenging Covid times. There are numerous stations for gel and gloves for dinner. I am surprised that the hotel didn’t revert to a waiter service for dinner, it would have saved on the PPE, and the food bill I would imagine. Special mention has to go to Carlos. What an absolute treasure, a little star, he constantly went above and beyond to be helpful and his recommendations for local activities were all spot on. Thank you Carlos. We will be back next May Thank you to all the staff at the Melia
Five star week
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for the first week in September. Room was beautiful with a spectacular sea view. Breakfasts were amazing and we were literally on the most beautiful beach on the island (although busy at times). Pool and terraces had v comfortable loungers and we were given new beach towels every day The real star of the show was the staff. Magnificent from the manager to the maids with a special mention for Isaac Marco and Pablo on breakfast. One problem. Spanish guests were unfriendly and at times very rude which we know is NOT the norm for Menorca. Definitely worth a visit, in spite of a few rich miserable Spaniards.
Paradise
The Level Melia Cala Galdana is like an exclusive hotel inside another hotel. You have your own Hall, your recepcionist an the best of all your exclusive breakfast and the infinitypool ONLY for The Level guests. The sunset reflect on the sea and also in the infinitypool ,meanwhile you are in the balinese bed will be The most romantic sunset of your life.100%sure! One morning,we tried the buffet of Melia ,and it's marvelouse, but the breakfast of The Level is outstanding. We stayed for 9 nights, our room was in the 6 floor. We had a nice terrace with two chairs and a table. What a lovely way to start the morning viewing the sunrise from bed and end the day with the most romantic sunset. The staff is ver polite. Fran Mora is en every single detail. Manuel the Argentinian waitress is so NICE! The hotel is 100% clean and Covid Free. Bathroom is perfect with plenty of Rituals amenities. We look foward to stay here again. Thank you... Anastasia & Francisco
An Unfortunate Tale of Poor Hospitality
My family and I have been to Menorca various times and love the island for their wonderful nature and beautiful people. Unfortunately, we can not say the same for the Hotel Cala Galdana. We have stayed their more than twice and each time has been very expensive and a complete disappointment when it came to the managements staff's hospitality (the workers, especially the Andalusians who work the kitchen and tables are an exception. They Are extremely warm as we have experienced through our travels in Spain). In this occasion, we had booked a suite with the expectation that our 16 year old son could get a roll in bed. Apparently due to Balearic law they could not afford us this option and we are forced to book another room for him at a 2 thousand Euro added expense! Mind you we already were spending 5 thousand plus for the suite. No other option was offered so we decided to cancel and stay elsewhere. This hotel for all its wonderful location and great employee staff is not recommended as management is totally inflexible and just interested in the bottomline and not satisfying clients or obtaining loyal customers. a sign perhaps of our more modern times. I for one look back too days when hotels developed those relationships with their clients and did not look at you as solely another number. This hotel is nice but not welcoming and devoid of hospitality and maybe of greeter importance , a heart.
Great hotel which is just trying to stretch too far for five stars
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the hotel. The setting is picture perfect with to die for views of the Cala. Definitely make sure to get sea view rooms. The rooms are small in size but the layout ceatively maximizes every last centimeter, and you have very good privacy on your small terrace. The hotel has a really cool vibe and design which feels very upmarket. The staff are wonderful when they have time for you, but somehow many places like the bar and the pools seemed to be short of staff, and you have to wait a bit longer than you like for service. We splashed out for Level which definitely has a bunch of wonderful benefits. The inifinty pool was great, but we could only enjoy it once since kids are not allowed. Breakfast is in an exclusive area. If you are on half board you also have a private restaurant. While we were there this was closed but this is probably a huge plus because it meant we could enjoy the much more swanky beach level restaurant. The main buffet restaurant is excellent anyway and we ate there several evenings. One disappointment is that parking is not included with Level, though earlier reviews suggested it was included. The price has also shot up to an exhorbitant EUR 35 per day. The Level lounge has great views, and amazing hors d’ouevres. It would have been more enjoyable with some sun blinds to reduce the glare in the room during cocktail hour. As a Platinum Melia Rewards member it would have been nice to get more recognition such as a room upgrade or room amenities. However the only benefit was the very standard early check in. Hilton and Marriott are miles ahead which treatment for VIP customers. Marta one of the Level conceirges did an amazing job to get us reservations at restaurant S’Amarador. We literally has the best table in the restaurant, and it was a real highlight of our weeks thanks to Melia. At checkout we took advantage of keeping one room until 6pm for an extra EUR 75, which was definitely worth it. Overall an excellent stay. It is not quite up to the standards of other 5 star hotels in the world. As long as your expectations are not too high you will have a great time. At the end it really depends at which price you get you room, because the price range is huge depending on season.
