Very Nice and Very Deceptive ... Disappointing

Reviewed 30 july, 2019

This is an odd place to review, as it presents serious and striking contrasts. The place is really nice, at least physically. The reception area is attractive, and the common areas (a living room, and an eating area) are quite nice. My room was simple, but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was also simple, but also quite nice and very clean. As such, physically, the space is excellent. Then things got a bit weird. I made my reservation via hotels.com, and the confirmation email said check-in 1-10 pm local time. I arrived at 6 pm, and the manager was clearly irked at my having arrived so late. Indeed, he told me so, and said that they were about to have departed and left me out in the cold. Next, the confirmation email said "cash deposit required," but the manager wanted me to pay in full in cash, which amounted to 5060 Mexican pesos. I had 5000, and he said that I would get him the 60 later (of course!). I responded that could I give him 4500, so that I would not have an empty wallet, and he responded, "I will take the 5000." Wow. Deposit? Next was the breakfast... I had early-morning commitments the first several days, and so left early enough that I did not expect breakfast. However, on Sunday, I had no commitments, and stayed at the B&B through the morning. There was no breakfast. I don't get it ... it is called a bed and breakfast, and yet the manager never mentioned breakfast, and none ever appeared when I did stay around. Huh? The manager was quite brusk with me the first day, and seemed to be trying to make amends the subsequent days. That is, he was friendly, but was always pushy and overbearing. A final detail is that whoever it was that made up the room was very intrusive... my papers were bunched up on the desk, and my sandals put away in the closet. I appreciated the high level of cleanliness, but I never really knew where my stuff was after the room had been cleaned. Overall, a beautiful and simple place to stay on the south side of Mexico City. But the management is weird and uneven, and many aspects are simply deceptive ... where WAS the breakfast???? At the very least, the manager needs to edit what is sent to those who make reservations. More likely, the entire management needs to be reworked.

Great place, great neighborhood

Rooms is just fine, breakfast good, Max is super helpful with navigating the city, had lots of suggestions. Neighborhood is interesting, lots of cafes, nice park, grocery store nearby. Transport is easy. We have kids, and they got an adjoining room, which was good.

My sister and I went here on a quick getaway early October! The main staff is an awesome gentlemen who provides literally every one of your needs. We got there pretty late on a Wednesday night but the location is perfect to a busy part of the city, so finding food wasn't difficult! the neighborhood is filled with cute bars and restaurants that are happy to have you there! You don't have to be a scholar at Spanish to be there just in case you only know the basics! Every morning I ran the city and that was so awesome! it's super busy, but is easily navigatable. There's a lovely park not to far full of people walking their dogs and running. Mexico City is undergoing cutting-edge changes in their communities so everything is becoming more modern and there's parks with work out equipment everywhere. There is uber and it is super cheap and they had no issue finding the hotel. Breakfast daily was cooked for you and we were in heaven with chorizo and beans! The room was a nice size, the house keeping staff did an amazing job daily because we are messy. We loved the stay there.

Fabulous place to stay

Just spent a week at the Dakota and heartily recommend it. The facility was nice, clean, good wifi, good breakfast, small kitchenette, and all the usual amenities. The real draw, though is the owner, Max. He was so helpful--cared about what we saw in Mexico City, and walked us through how to get everywhere, and what to see. Both he and his wife Ruth bent over backwards to help us out. The neighborhood had great restaurants and stores, was safe and clean. I will be back.

Great Place, Excellent Host!

I stayed at Dakota B&B for one week during my stay in Mexico City. This place was quiet, clean and very spacious. Most importantly, Max, who is the owner of Dakota B&B, does an excellent job of making sure you feel home at his property and in his city. Speaks very good English and gives excellent recommendations for anything you may be looking for. Every morning Max has a new Mexican breakfast ready for you. Napoles area is a great laid back area with plenty of restaurant options, and is not as hectic as the Codensa / Roma regions. People in the area are very friendly toward foreigners.
