Excellent Break from it ALL
My daughter and I checked the Saturday before Easter. The staff was extremely helpful, professional, and hand-ons. COVID protocols were visible all around the hotel. I most definitely would stay again.
Racist Hotel
While the Riu Hotel is a beautiful beach front Hotel, they are extremely RACIST. The staff at check-in is good but the rest of the Hotel staff is Racist. If you are Spanish speaking. you may get treated a little better, but not by much. That's why they are willing to give such a big discount to stay there. Don't waste your time. Go to a better hotel and city where they appreciate your tourist dollars.
Pay the extra money and go somewhere else
Don’t let the good ratings fool you. As soon as we walked in the front desk seemed annoyed with our presence. Took about 30 min to check in (really)! Rooms were ok, mold in the shower, and crappy beds. An extreme smell of wet dog in one of our two rooms as well. The whole floor reeked of marijuana. At the restaurants there is only one person working, so the lines take hours to grab a drink. Beach was not great, not enough chairs or umbrellas for everyone and towel system is stingy at the best. Hallways look like prisions. If you plan on sleeping good, don’t. There was tons of people yelling and partying all night and this was after spring break. Definitely not family friendly. The hotel has one small pool with 100 people crowding together. If you’re looking for a family friendly place please spend the extra and go somewhere nicer.
8 day stay
The hotel is in a good spot away from the chaos that was Spring Break. Construction behind hotel was disappointing but not their fault. The staff was great but it is very easy to see that there were completely overworked. The hotel was very understaffed which led to ridiculous wait times at either bar area outside. Many times the lines were so long to get a drink that you would just decide not to do so. Again, nothing against the staff as they were dealing with what they were handed. For example, Claudia at the outside bar was running around like a chicken without a head to keep up. Management should have been better prepared. Beach area could have been better organized and outdoor pool area music was either off or too loud. It's a shame because this could have been an excellent review all around had management paid better attention.
DO NOT STAY HERE
At first glance the hotel looks nice. It was marketed as a family friendly hotel... ha. Four nights out of our 7 night stay (the first two and the last two) we were awoken by partying, couples fighting and drunk 20 somethings roaming the halls banging on doors and sleeping on the floors. The entire facility reeks of pot. We had to walk over puke on the 8th floor, elevators were broken and we had to climb 8 floors to get to our room several times a day, beach access not available, black mold on the bathroom floors, my daughter cut her foot on glass while walking to the restroom by the pool, towels were taken out of our room when cleaned and not replaced. I requested a two day refund and was told I would need to speak to management which was never around. Do yourselves a favor and spend your money elsewhere. You can bet RUI will never see another dollar of mine.
