Lovely hotel, great location, friendly staff, but....
First of all, let me say we loved just about everything about this place. The homey décor, the friendly staff, the location, the view out back, the size of the room, the ease at check-in, the provided breakfast and the cleanliness throughout the hotel ticked almost all the boxes. Almost. Unfortunately, the lack of sleep due to horribly uncomfortable beds was enough to put us off from returning. They were hard and lumpy...in the morning we were both stiff and achy. Not a good thing. Don't get me wrong, the bed linen was top-notch, and the lovely quilt comforters were wonderful, but the beds had seen better days. Television service was also pretty bad. I'd push the button to change the channel, and it would take forever for it to change....sometimes almost a minute. And more than once we'd be watching something and the screen would just go black. I'd have to change the channel (which took forever) , and then change it back to what I was watching (which also took forever). My guess is the Spectrum internet service they use is just rubbish. Perhaps that's just the norm for the area...not sure. It's really a shame that, with so many positives, our stay was marred by the beds and TV. But the bottom line is, if you don't have a restful, good night's sleep, all the other stuff doesn't really matter. I really hope our experience was a one-off. As to whether or not I would recommend the Carlisle Inn in Walnut Creek,...probably, but I would suggest you check out the bed when you first get there....if it's not to your liking, ask for another room. We were in 215.
Incredible hotel
I stayed four days at the Carlisle Inn. The staff treated me like royalty. They were very accommodating and eager to please. The room was fabulously luxurious. There are numerous shops to visit plus it is in the heart of the Amish countryside. This a “must stay” hotel!
Hotel has changed!
This has always been one of our favorite places to stay in Holmes County, but something has definitely changed. I can see they "updated" the inside, but in my opinion they took out a lot of the charm and made it more sleek and modern looking. They lost the homey feel of the place and now it almost looks like everywhere else. The outside desperately needs a coat of paint. Paint is peeling and part of their gingerbread up near the roof in front is actually rotted off. Not too appealing. Was embarrassed that it looked like that when we had brought guests with us to stay here for our trip after we promised an amazing stay. Front desk is nice enough, but seriously, they have a hamper full of towels at the front desk for the clerk to fold when they aren't busy. It is totally unprofessional. There are stacks of folded and unfolded towels behind the counter. Plus stacks of paperwork, a Tupperware container, just clutter. Everyone nice, but front desk just isn't a good first impression. We upgraded to the deluxe breakfast next door at Der Dutchman but still had to stand in line 20 minutes to get in the door. The hostess at the stand told me we had to wait in line like everyone else. We had stayed at the Sugarcreek Carlisle Inn a few weeks earlier and were let right in if we had the deluxe breakfast vouchers. Sunday morning the restaurant isn't open but breakfast is very nice in the hotel. Only one employee working the entire area but she did a great job. Hope they get a handle on the front desk and a new paint job before we are ready to come back to Holmes County!
Traversing Ohio
Great hotel!! The room was very spacious, clean and set up beautifully. The food in the restaurant was good and filling. All of the staff at both the hotel and restaurant were wearing masks, plenty of hand sanitizer around. Will be returning!!
