Very considerate management
We planned to stay here but never made it due to coronavirus. Hotel management was very kind and considerate about our need to cancel at the last minute - the day we were to arrive. I am sure this attitude reflects the overall quality of the hotel. We hope to visit in the future.
Valentines in Mont Saint Michel
We spent a short but nice time at the hotel. I ordered a basket of fruits to our room and it was really worth it. The fruits were many! Our baby enjoyed the big bed at the room and did not want to leave the room. We had a bathtub which was really nice. The staff was very kind too. The only improvement could be the parking. We found it a bit hard to find it and called the hotel several times. Eventually we parked safely and it was really not expensive for 24 hours. In general would stay again.
Great location, room okay, bathroom good, decor/carpets tired, restaurant reasonable
We only stayed for one night and there were good and bad points; Once you get past the barrier on to the main street (hotel will email you a 6-digit code so check your junk folder) the hotel location is very good. It would be a good walk to the MS-M though there are free shuttle buses to/from approx. every ten minutes. Unfortunately we arrived whilst the reception was unmanned and received no attention from sounding the bell. I went in search of staff and didn't realise until later that evening that the people I had seen in the restaurant were the staff eating their dinner and they had chosen to ignore me, without so much as a nod. I telephoned the hotel and that brought a member of staff from the restaurant to reception where we were checked in. Not a great start.... Room was okay, decor and carpets very tired, bed mattress needed replacing, bathroom worked fine. View of MS-M from the balcony was nice. Restaurant for dinner that evening and the food was better looking than tasting, quite expensive Ion par for the location) and the service was somewhat disinterested and random - food served promptly but thereafter getting attention was troublesome. A good wine selection and fair pricing. Breakfast was as you would expect for a buffet and the selection offered was fairly good. The hotel location is key here, situated elsewhere this hotel would struggle and doesn't entirely match the description or projected image. I did feel that this establishment was resting on its laurels and serving a captive market so diffifcult to recommend without knowing how good or bad the alternatives (several on the same main street) are.
Excellent option for visiting Mont St Michel
This hotel has good amenities and is well located for visiting Mont St Michel. Like pretty much all hotels in the area, its rooms are small; but here they are very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and spotlessly clean. Staff are multi-lingual, French and English at least, possibly some other languages also. It also has a large restaurant, which doubles as the breakfast room. We had a good breakfast each of the 2 days of our visit, and ate there once in the evening. There was a good selection of classic French dishes (including many regional Normandy specialities) and a decent wine list, with prices moderate. There were some dishes suitable for vegetarians also, though mainly cheese-based, so not sure how vegans would go. Service was efficient, and wait staff also speak English. For dinner, like elsewhere, at least in winter the restaurant closes fairly early, so get in before 8 pm if you want to eat there. The hotel is on the main road in La Caserne, the small village directly across from Mont St Michel. It's an easy 2 km stroll to Mont St Michel, or you can take the free shuttle buses that go regularly (about every 10 minutes) from just down the main street. (If you don't have a car, you should stay in La Caserne or the hotels on the island itself, as other locations are too far to walk.) It's a very good choice in a perfect location for Mont St Michel, and has reasonable prices for this very popular region - recommended.
Old smelly hotel with horrible service and food
We stayed there 1 night so we could visit MSM at night. There wasn’t that many great hotel options there so I knew going in without much expectation but this hotel failed in all category. This is worse than an equivalent trucker’s motel you rent by the hour. First, the rooms were old, stained carpet so we laid towels on the floor so we could walk in bare foot. Second, customer service is lacking. The lady who checked us in not so friendly. We were a group of 11 and came in 3 rental cars. My cousin’s car battery died in the evening and a call to the rental company’s automated system was all in French so we tried to ask the lady for help in translating and she made it seem like we were a bother and said that the car company won’t send anyone for a dead battery. I ended up calling multiple times and finally got someone on the phone who spoke English and they did send someone to come that evening to repair. Finally, the food at the restaurant was so terrible that it tasted like they just heated up a frozen dinner and served to us for 38 euros per person! The seafood platter was all cold and tasted so fishy. Stay away from this Bates Motel
