Feedback from an IHG Spire Ambassador

This is the only IHG hotel in Uruguay. If you're an elite member of IHG be on alert! You're supposed to receive a complimentary breakfast. This hotel charges their elite IHG members. I have stayed at this hotel many times since 2015. However, i won't return again. It's quite unfortunate as I liked it but the hotel management doesn't seem to understand IHG policies for their elite members--regardless of the rate you book--you are supposed to get this simple gesture. If you don't care about breakfast, then please stay here. It's a good hotel overall.

Stayed for two nights. As Ambassador member I was upgraded to a Junior Suite. Pros: - good central location - cheap price - friendly staff doing their best - clean Cons: - very old - no views from the room - smells old - scary hallways and elevators - empty restaurant with basic choice
Comfortable stay, Centrally located hotel

A very comfortable stay. The Holiday Inn is centrally located right near the Plaza Independencia. From a location perspective, the other main place where travelers stay is near the Punta Carretas mall which is closer to the main beaches and an upscale shopping mall. That said, I preferred being near Plaza Indepedencia since it's closer to museums and the ciudad vieja which has a lot of things to do of cultural interest such as Teatro Solis. Just depends on the sort of vacation you want to have. Check in was fast although I arrived early and my room wasn't yet ready. No matter, I went for a walk and the hotel stored by bags. The room was comfortable. Wood floors which was a nice touch. Outdated bathroom and no safe provided. My TV did not work, but the staff were up quickly and fixed it quickly. Overall good service. There's a basic gym on the top floor and a pool. Overall a comfortable stay and recommended.

The location is old down town, for me ok. I was able to find good restaurants at a walking distance and feel pretty safe walking around at evening hours when the streets are empty. The hotel need a revamp in everything, internet is weak, and for me terrible since I was in a business trip.
We loved the Holiday Inn Montevideo!

One block from the Plaza Independencia where the Presidential Office Bldg, Canadian Embassy, Palacio de Salvo, and the Museo Casa de Gobierno are located, and one block from the Ciudad Viejo, casino, and the financial district makes this a great location. The room was spacious, clean, but simply furnished. We enjoyed the heated indoor pool, particularly on cold, rainy winter days. Hector (at the front desk) and Shamilla (restaurant) were terrific. A few notes for future visitors: 1) Hotel laundry is expensive as is the lavadero right across the street. We took our laundry to the corner of Andres and San Jose and had phenomenal (and inexpensive) service. Highly recommend. 2) Montevideo buses are inexpensive (~38 Pesos), modern, clean and easy to navigate. We went to see the famous Montevideo sign and the Rambla/Los Positos area. Ask at the front desk. 3) Tata's Grocery Store is on 18 de Julio one block from Andres Street. Tata's is a good place to stock up on snacks, beer, wine, and fresh bakery items, cheese, salami, etc. 4) We enjoyed Cafe con Leche and Pastries at Queen's Cafe on Andres, just up from Avenida de 18 de Julio 5) Free Walking Tours (Tips only) leave daily from the Plaza Independencia. We had Rodrigo and highly recommend.
