Amazing hotel
Amazing charming hotel right next to the main square in Montevideo. Old building is decorated in retro style which gives it special charm. It is very clean and comfortable. Kitchen is very useful. Wifi great too. Staff very polite. We will come back for sure.
Very Charming hotel.
Splendido hotel it’s located right across the street from the famous ‘Teatro Solis’ and 1 minute walk to ‘Plaza Independencia’ Our room had a double and a single bed and a private bathroom. It was on the second floor but rooms with 15 ft ceilings it’s a walk if you have luggage and no elevators. Plenty of restaurants near by but I’d recommend walking to ‘Mercado del Puerto’ about 12 minutes. For fantastic food. From plaza independencia you can take buses to go everywhere in the city any they cost like .75¢ US cents per trip. They are all numbered an easy to figure out.
Noisy retro hotel in the old centre of Montevideo
Although the hotel was in a good location to visit the old centre of Montevideo, it was really noisy at night due to bars in the street. Apart from the noise keeping us awake, we also had bites from bedbugs. It's a simple retro hotel, not the cleanest but friendly staff. Would not recommend this place. It's cheap but not worth having bedbugs in your luggage.
Very helpful owners
Great little hotel perfectly located near major tourist sites; right across from Teatro Solis, for instance. Wood floors, high ceilings, family atmosphere; reviews saying "charming" have it right. Due to a booking hiccup, I could only stay one night. The owner helped me get to another place nearby. That is above and beyond the call, I would say. Note that there is no breakfast, but they have a kitchen for common use, and some rooms share bathrooms, but everything was clean. And cozy inside...it was winter outside!
A charming, funny old hotel
This is in an old building smack in the center of the old part of Montevideo. It's got a musty, theatrical and dated feel about it -- not the typical place for the luxury-seeking. I loved the antiques and the decor. A well-equipt kitchen is available for those who want to cook. This adjoins a period-piece dining room.with piano. The staff is amazingly communicative and helpful.
