Hotel well located with a good price
I had to stay just for one night in Montreal, with no time to analyzing all the options available for accommodation. I figure out this hotel located in an area with a lot of restaurants and near to a metro station. It was cheap compared with the average for its category. It was clean and its staff was very kind. Recommendable.
Please please do not stay here if you are feeling depressed or suicidal
Where do I begin? The most misleading reviews on this dreadful accommodation are due to the price difference offered. If you book through those two famous "dot.com" website you will see this place gets great ratings for being in the centre of restaurants, bars and clubs and for value for money. Ie "dirt cheap" with the clue being in my description. For £30 a night it is considerably better than sleeping on a bench. However we paid over £80 a night for several nights. To be fair it does include breakfast which is unlimited tea coffee with muffins and croissants. There were no facilities in the room, but I did not check whether the dingy basement kitchen was unlocked throughout the day. Our room came without basin or bath plugs. We were told these were not provided! This is either a hostel or a "doss house" which is now coining it in as a "hotel". The entrance and stairs (no lift) are grubby and threadbare. I did not dare look at the mattress, but the edge of it was very stained. I stayed at such place in Bournemouth once, for £25 but at least the carpets were clean. On the good side, the chambermaid did clean our room and our plug-free bathroom so we did leave her a tip. She also handed me a can of fresh air spray. This is a first too. Our room was at the back and quiet, so we did sleep okay apart from our neighbour grunting loudly about 11pm each night who appeared to be working for the establishment. There was also a functioning hairdryer and they replaced the toilet paper. So not all bad, but just depressingly shabby with some shabby people sitting around the reception area and smokers on the steps.
Only if you're desperate
Almost every aspect of this hotel is poor. -no elevator with 4 stories -rooms and hallway smelled of smoke -covers and walls were stained -room service only makes the bed and takes the trash from the one trashcan in the bathroom. no cleaning -bugs, especially in the bathroom -deteriorating furniture and appliances (sink had bad chipping, fridge was moldy, chairs and table were stained and scratched) -next to a strip club (not child-friendly) -cigarettes littered the entrance -staff were constantly on their phones even when trying to talk to them The hotel does have a phenomenal location, next to various restaurants and a block away from the metro. This place is cheap, but even for $10 more a night you can find a much better hotel.
Unfriendly to Americans
It was the week of the marathon in Montreal in September, 2018. it looks like a quaint nice little hotel there was 20 stairs straight up before you got to the lobby I had to carry two suitcases that were very heavy up those stairs I got to the lobby the three guys running it we’re not very friendly ...I should’ve just turned around and left ..,I asked them if they had Wi-Fi they said yes , a lie.. I said I would like a room they said it would be $150 and then I had to pay upfront that was my first mistake I paid $150 upfront on my credit card ...I climbed to the third-floor I opened the door well first of all let me say the room is filthy dirty it’s smelled disgusting I had also asked if it was air-conditioned but I guess it wasn’t and the smell was nasty and dirty the bed looked terrible I wouldn’t even sit on it I looked at my fiancé and I said we’re not staying in this place also I checked the Wi-Fi and we had no service so I walked back downstairs ...the three guys again are checking people in ignoring me I said hey I’d like to get my money back and leave they could care less at that point I didn’t care and I just dropped the keys behind the front desk.. they could care less that I left and I could care less also.. I just want to make sure everyone knows they’re not friendly to Americans they look down at me I would never go back please don’t go anywhere near that place unless you want the same story for yourself ...Read a few other reviews just read them... does not deserve any stars ...
Bad service, dirty place, bugs.
I stayed here severral times due to location (near bus depot) and cost. However it is not worth it even it was free. The staff are sarcastic and rude. I booked rooms through a travel website and when I got to the hotel they wanted me to pay them direct and tell the website I never stayed. Then they would say I am a no show. I paid cash so they probably pocketed it and I could be charged by the website for a no show. Then the hotel would collect twice for the same room. The bedding smells like cologne and musty and needs a good wash. There are yellow stains on the bedding and some blood stains too. Not hygenic. I noticed some small bugs crawling around in the bathroom sink last time I stayed there. The breakfast is not that great. Often the croissants are stale. It is in the basement of the hotel so if you are on a higher floor you have to walk a lot of stairs. No elevators in this hotel. And they have four floors and basement. The rooms in the basement are gross. I stayed in 1 once and never again. Very noisy guests in the hotel too. I heard young children screaming and running around at 2am in the morning and a couple phyically fighting in another room. The staff do not care much about it as long as they get their money. \ Avoid this place. It is a true dump.
