Affordable but average
Opinión escrita el 18 de septiembre de 2018
I had a single room and I was here for a week. The place seems to have been recently refurbished. Mostly immaculate but there were signs of things that still seemed to need some attention. The single bed was interesting. The matress keeps sliding off the bed when you sat on the edge. and the pillow was very big, about the size of 2 average UK pillows but was as soft as jelly (no exaggeration). The location was predominantly suburban and extremely quiet. I care not for continental breakfast but that is included in the price.

Friendly staff but seems more like a pension than hotel
Opinión escrita el 27 de mayo de 2014
First impression of the hotel was not so good, as there is an unpleasant smell upon arrival. Some areas smell more of cigarette smoke than others. We stayed with a group, some single rooms, some double. The double rooms are spacious, the singles have barely space around the beds from a mix of stories I was told. The rooms are very clean. Breakfast was the average German spread, but always looked fresh and well cared for. We did eat at the restaurant one evening for dinner, and it was painfully slow, expensive, and average. However, the staff is friendly.

Smelly
Opinión escrita el 28 de octubre de 2013
Upon entering the very "authentic" looking hotel, we clearly noticed a smell of dogs and cigaterre smoke. Very unpleasant. We had made a reservation for a double room. There was a big fair in Essen, and during fares prices in the area go up, so we had to pay 75 euro's a night. Our room was large, smelly nevertheless, but the had placed some bunk-bed with an incredibly hard mattress in the single room,to turn in into a double. It was really unacceptable, especially for this price, but... the manager fixed the problem immediately by handing over the key to a normal double room. I feel sorry for the people who got our room, though. In the room there were no glasses, I did not spot any shampoo (my friend said she saw some small packs?) and there were towels for one person only. The TV was not functioning well, but since we did not stay in the hotel to watch TV, we didn't mention that to the manager. What put us of the most, was the doggy-nicotiney smell, yuck. Breakfast was moderate: fresh, not overdone. That's about all, I would not recommend my friends staying there, unless they are anosmic.

Hotel owners are not fair in dealing
Opinión escrita el 18 de marzo de 2013
The hotel owners are cheats. They settled the bills in cash and later deducted 200 euros from credit card also with the excuse in the information letter that we had spoilt their bed sheets with some eatables. Although, it was a bit stained due to some of the eatables accidently dropped on the bed, but it could be easily washed and that is why hotel is paid off.

Comfortable accomodation near the Old Town
Opinión escrita el 9 de enero de 2012
Most people would not know that Mülheim in the German (formerly) industrial Ruhr area does have an Old Town, or Altstadt in German. Still, it exists. It's quite small and close to the shopping malls from the 1950s and 1960s. And it's the place to go if you are looking for a nice traditional pub or good restaurant. Haus Kastanienhof (Chestnut Mansions) is at walking distance close to the Old Town, not more than 10 minutes, although it is quite a steep climb when returning to the hotel after a night of eating and drinking out. The place itself is clean, rooms are comfortable and not that small, considering the price. The breakfast buffet is of a high standard, with fresh fruit, several sorts of cheese etc. Both the owner and the staff are very friendly.
