Another Great Stay!

We just returned from this property on Oct. 30th. Once again our stay was great! We stayed in room 1208 and although the room had some issues we did not feel that it diminished our stay. The views are so great, especially at sunrise and sunset. The pools are nice and warm and the beach is just 100 yards or so from the hotel. Our favorite pass time there is hunting for shark teeth and this place has a lot! .We have been going to Myrtle Beach for over 20 years now and we have stayed in many resorts and this place is the best! This now our 3rd stay at Sandy Beach and it will not be the last. The only negative I have is that although they provide a TV channel guide I could not find a listing of what was airing on each channel.
Eh, it was ok.

Started out bad but got slightly better. Front desk person was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. She is not in the right profession. Most of the staff was pretty unhelpful. Our first night was awful with a horrible noise all night long. We thought it was the fridge running, but we shut the kitchen door and that didn’t help. Then we thought it was the fan outside our door, but they removed that and still there was a horrible noise. It was sort of a loud vacuum sound. I finally found that putting a towel down at the bottom of the door to the hallway stopped it, thank God because it was unbearable. I found the room to be clean, but very worn, some rust on the fridge, bathroom door cheap and worn. Everything just seemed well worn. After saying all that, I think if my kids were younger and with me, I probably would have loved the place. With two queen beds in one room and a Murphy bed and sofa in the other, we would have all fit nicely. And there’s plenty for kids to do in the summer with an amusement park a block away and a water slide next door (closed for the season while we were there) plus the beautiful beach and lots of pools. Good for a family. But for a couple? I think I would have preferred one of the bigger hotels up at the other end of the road. Oh, and there was no maid service, so I found the $30 daily “resort” fee unreasonable. For what? It’s just a way for them to advertise a cheaper nightly rate than there actually is.

Let’s start with our room, #217. Had a water leak in the living room and damage to ceiling not quite done. Carpeting needs replaced. Wasn’t as clean as I would have liked when we checked in, but I am a self proclaimed hotel snob. The beds were very comfortable! The employees were absolutely sweet, friendly and helpful. Couldn’t have asked for nicer people. Had 3 pools, 3 hot tubs, a extremely small “lazy river “, and a splash pad. Kept clean and perfect temperatures.

The room was very spacious however, the carpet needed a good cleaning. The refrigerator was rusty. The light switch by the door turned on the TV instead of the light. The lamp in the living room was unplugged but I rectified that. The view from the balcony was very nice. I resented the fact that we were not told before we checked in that there was no maid service and firmly feel that a partial refund should be given because of the lack of service. We were told we would need to talk to the manager about that. Also, a huge draw back is the parking. We had a handicapped vehicle. Many evenings we had to park in the very last row -- over a block away. On at least one night, most of the cars parked in the handicapped spaces did not have either handicapped plates or placards. More handicapped spaces are needed. The number of and variety of pools was very nice. However, the current in the lazy pool was virtually non-existent. Access to the beach was easy. Not sure I will stay again due to the lack of maid service and parking.
Value not there

One of the first hotels you see as you come into the city from 95. My suite needed a makeover because the kitchen cabinet doors and fronts were peeling their cheap vinyl covering. Towel quality was that of motels used for afternoon delights... aka cheap sandpaper. Useful for scrubbing your sunburned skin. Balcony was nice size but mine lacked a table to put a drink on. I noticed that about half of the balconies were missing the table. Must have blown away because they were the cheap chairs n tables you get from a dollar general. On the positive, the suite had two queen beds in the back room with dressers. A murphy bed and a pull out sofa so you could sleep 8. Bathroom was large with a full width mirror that 2 or three could use at once though only 2 outlets and one sink but this isnt your McMansion but a place to sleep while on vacation and the kitchen area boasted a double sink, dishwasher, stove, large microwave, large fridge. Cooking utensils were there but no silverware??? It also had an apartment sized single unit stacked washer and dryer. The pool are was large with two outdoor pools, 1 4-person and 1 large jacuzzi pools. There was a baby area n kid area under roof to protect from sun. The lazy river was so lazy you had to propel yourself around. I saw few kids play in this area as they got bored. The beach is very short and at high tide everything got wet up to the dunes so you better bring chairs. I recommend the larger hotels to the north or south.
