More about the hotel
Awful experience. Stay away from this place.
They did not inform us when we booked, that there are no chairs in the room. When we complained about this, their response was - did you ask for a room with chairs? WTF? Where are we supposed to sit - on the floor? Even the most basic motel has chairs in the room? They wanted to up-charge us $100 for a room that had two chairs. The front desk person Jamea, was unhelpful and argumentative and the resort manager was too busy with other complaining people to talk to us. In desperation, I tried speaking to a supervisor at the booking center in Florida and when she eventually came on the line, she too was argumentative and unhelpful. Is this a pattern? She wanted to listen to the phone recording of when we made the booking to see if we asked for a room with chairs! Unbelievable! Fortunately, we were here over the weekend, so did not get to experience the construction noise that everyone is complaining about. But, instead we got a room with an AC/heater unit that did not function properly - it did not heat the room properly- and the shower water was only lukewarm. This place is very busy all day doing timeshare presentations in large rooms to many people. Some, no doubt, having to listen to a 90 minute schpiel about how good this resort is. I don’t think it’s good and wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. There are many other nice timeshare resorts in Myrtle beach if timeshare is what you want. Now just watch - someone from Westgate is going to post a meaningless response to this post to justify their poor service, and ask to be given another chance. Ha! You only had one chance to impress me, and you blew it. You tried to get an extra $100 from me so that I could have a couple of chairs to sit on in one of your rooms. Probably not the best way for you to have handled this. I will absolutely not go back to a Westgate resort again.
Staff very nice
All I can say is that the CONSTRUCTION noise was not very nice early early morning. There was a very long Long walk to room ! We arrived at very late and at check in was told directions to my room and had to say what? Because I was told go down this hall turn right then turn left go do through four pass the pool go in the other door to our tower then go down the hall to the elevator to the 9th floor get off turn right then right . So I said again what are you kidding me ? I was just explaining to the woman that I had suffered a bad accident and had a bad head injury and I still had to walk all the way to that tower! Because we were in a timeshare apparently we could not be upgraded . So I asked her Can you please provide directions ? So they got a male escort to our room Two woman not offered a luggage rack not offered help with our bags! ? Parking bad , no spa , no room service no jacuzzi , now is not a good time to stay staff was great thus three star the mace to get to and from room was the worst Because if you forgot something you were screwed and have to walk another mile back to your room!
Not a great experience!
We were there earlier this month. Liked the layout of the unit, but the furniture in the tv area was very uncomfortable, told we were getting an oceanview unit (you had to really lean over the balcony to see the ocean, but had a direct review of their construction), they provided jitney service to/from their parking ares (however it was only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and they charge for internet service unless you were a timeshare owner at this specific location (we traded our timeshare unit from Nevada to here and even though we have a platinum membership in the timeshare exchange they would charge). Saw on their ad on Trip Advisor they state free wifi, not so. Maybe when their construction is completed, it may be better.
Kids Loved It
We were a little nervous with going to a resort during Covid but decided to go as kids were out of school and to have a change of scenery. We felt very safe as masks were required within the resort and temperatures were even taken at the onsite restaurant upon entering, even to pick up take out! My kids (10 and 8) loved the activity center and wanted to go daily. The staff there was awesome and had great ideas and planned crafts and activities for kids, adults, and for the whole family. Negatives were that there was construction in the parking lot that started really early in the morning and parking was limited close by. As an owner, I also was expecting an ocean front room vs a construction side/ocean view room, so that was disappointing.
Beware: Construction until Nov 2021.
We've stayed here a handful of times over the years and loved it. We've even brought extended family and friends, they all had a great time, too. There's lots to do for kids and grownups, plus the beach and pools are a short distance apart. That said, we won't be back until the construction is done (November 2021) on their new 9-story parking deck for the following reasons: 1. Construction starts weekdays between 6am and 7am, so don't expect to sleep in beyond that. I'm glad they're finally finishing the parking deck (construction started years ago and was halted by the economy in 2010, I think) but it's not worth the headache to stay here right now. 2. COVID19. Yah, they're doing their best with mask regulations and such, but not all the guests are wearing them. 3. Parking is terrible. They've torn up they majority of the parking lot. They have remote lots dotted around the area in the meantime so be prepared to hoof it. 4. The hotel is pet friendly, which is great, but there are only two small patches of grass for dogs to use. It's clear that not all guests clean up after their dogs and the hotel doesn't maintain those areas, either - there's a lot of poop laying around so be on the lookout. 5. Did I mention the construction noise?! It's intense. I have high hopes for the property once the construction is complete, but until then we'll stay clear.
