beautiful stay

Reviewed 3 february, 2020

Loved the view from our room, and the onsen looking over the lake and snowy scenery. Free shuttle from Onumakoen station. And the bakery is across from the parking lot. We had uni curry, a pastry, a pizza, 2 coffees for 2,500 yen only!

Classy Japanese Onsen hotel in the middle of Onuma National Park

Reviewed 22 october, 2019

I am so glad to choose this place. This is the kind of luxury hotels Japanese go for their well earned vocation. 99% of clients are Japanese, the service is excellent, and the place is so clean. It is in the middle of a swamp forest, and you feel you are really getaway from it all. That's why it is always worth to do your homework to choose a hotel. A good choice could elevated your breaks into a great experience. The hotel is 25 km outside Hakodate, its huge secluded, and the staffs, though poor in English, are really eager to help. The Onsen is huge and the outside area feature a view of the lake and the forest, and though you are in the open, your privacy is secured. A 30 minutes in the bath really clear and calm your mind and body, and make you so relax and make your night sleep so sweet. Breakfast is a big affair, there are so many choices, Western items are limited but you can have a feast with grilled Salmon, handmade sushi rolls, and deserts made with Hokkaido milk. A short drive is Onuma national park, do spree an hour to look at the beautiful parks with hundreds of lakes and soaring hills.

Great setting but dinner was poor

Reviewed 15 october, 2018

Hotel was comfortable although a little dated. Setting was wonderful and the breakfast room with a huge expanse of floor to ceiling glass was beautiful. However, our dinner was very over priced and the quality was poor. We had been eating Japanese food for three weeks and wanted a change so we considered the steak menu. However at $A50 for lower end steak and double that for the better quality option, we decided to have the sausages ($A28) Inexplicably, they arrived on a plate with only a large serving of raw onion and some mustard. The sausages themselves were flavourless. Breakfast was fine with a great many options but food quality did not match the quality of hotels of the last few weeks. However, to be fair, this hotel was less expensive than most and everything except the food was good. The waitress spoke very good English and the check in receptionist also managed good communication and warmth, even with limited English. My advice to the hotel would be to skip the Western meal offerings unless they can be brought down in price and lifted in quality. Currently the food undermines the rest of the hotel experience.

Clean nice triple bed room with wide glass window & mountain view. There are indoor & outdoor onsen. Good spread of breakfast buffet and free shuttle bus to Nanae Ski park. The staffs are very polite and friendly.

great hotel, but difficult when you don't speak Japanese

Reviewed 21 august, 2018

the hotel and environment is great! please rent a bike and cycle through the environemnt: it's great! also the Onsen is realy nice and clean with a spectacular view. there are two major dissapointments: the staff is hardly able to speak ANY English which makes it hard to ask anything at the front desk. The biggest problem is the restaurant: as many reviewers already stated: it's very difficult to get a table in the restaurant. We were able to get a table at 19.40, but the menu only in Japanese… when i said i saw an English menu at the front desk, the waiter got t from there, but the English menu is much smaller than the Japanese one…. but with Google translate and a picture of he Japanese menu we managed to order food and some decent wine ( not on the English menu) at 8 p.m. ( we were 20 minutes in the restaurant and just were about to get our starter) all waiters started preparing he other tables for the next day and didn't pay any attention to the customers. when you ask for some water ( my water glass had been empty for 20 minutes) they have to search for a waiter who is able to speak some basic English. The main problem is: you can't go anywhere else, unless you have a car, because there are no other restaurants in the neighbourhood. Restaurant is cafetaria/ pubfood quality for star restaurant prices… the most expensive food we had in Japan, but the lowest quality. but overall, the hotel s nice and the environment is great! one other dissapointment: as we had to leave the hotel at 6 a.m. and the breakfast starts at 7, we asked if we could get ANY food before departure: not possible (never experienced that in a hotel in Asia…..) so breakfast at the Shinkansen Railway station on our way back to Tokyo.
