We walked from the station to this hotel. It is very centrally located on a small street with interesting shops and an arcade of shops close by. The hotel has a delightfully modern entrance with a mini bamboo forest greeting guests. The room was a western style hotel room that was clean and comfortable. Very little English was spoken or even understood but this did not affect our stay. It was an easy walk to see the temple lights in the evening and to Nara Park.
a little light went dim in my heart
Hotel Hanakomichi looks very promising from the outside- the location is excellent (close to the station and in the heart of a pedestrianised part of the city) and the reception on the first floor looks clean and modern. However, the room that we had booked was a Japanese style one that we were obliged to book, being that we were a family of four- and sadly, this room was so depressing. It was a seedy-looking greenish tatami room with barely any light. We were so tired that we just wanted to lie down but of course there were no beds so I am ashamed to say that we used the sitting cushions as pillows and lied on the flat tatami mats for a rest before going out again. I tried to convince myself that this was authentic Japanese and it was what many Japanese people in the past lived in but I was not successful. The situation reminded me of Marie Kondo's book about tidying and only purchasing things that spark joy in one's heart. Instead, any light that was in my heart went dim that evening... On the plus side, they set out the futons for you at 7PM and the sheets seemed clean. The staff were also very accommodating. We left our luggage with them at check-out the next morning and then we kept coming back to put stuff in our luggage and then asking them to keep the luggage again. They did this with absolutely no fuss.
Ok location in Nara near the railway station and 10 minutes walk from Nara Parc, loads of restaurants in walking distance. Old furniture, old carpet on the floor but nice and moder toilet seat A bit too expensive
decent hotel at a great location
the hotel is located within a couple of minutes walk from the Nara Kintetsu station. It's in one of the two shopping galleries near the station. There are a lot of restaurants and shops nearby. Within a short walk is the Nara Park and the temples. the hotel is not modern (they have actual room keys, not key cards) or big, but that's fine. My wife and I just needed a place to rest, shower and sleep. The staff were very friendly. We arrived early to drop off our luggage at the hotel. They brought our luggage to our room (a small but nice gesture). We stayed in the traditional room and slept on the tatami. The room is quaint and has everything that we needed. Sleeping on the floor is not really my thing but it's good to have tried it.
Central and convenient
Arrived at the JR station- so this is a 10 minute walk from there, and if you are not looking for the sign because the reception is above a shop, you can miss the hotel entrance. Anyway the tourist centre at the JR station were on the ball and gave clear instructions. From the other station, it is not more than 100 yards. Opposite the hotel there is a supermarket and, in the other direction 25 years down the street is a coffee shop. The latter does a good breakfast (pastries and coffee for 350yen). Rooms are OK, clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Convenient for Nara
