A stripped-down dorm room
Reviewed 5 december, 2021
Marriott has a lot of moxy charging as much as they do for what amounts to a stripped-down marginal dorm room. Even the chain that leaves the light on for you is a better deal. At the Moxy, you actually check in in the bar area, not a separate check-in area. When I checked in, the clerk was more interested in getting me my free drink (which I declined) than he was checking me in. The room has NO coffee maker and NO cups for drinking water. You have to go down to the bar area to get coffee, which isn't ready until 6 a.m. Hot water for tea? You have to ask the clerk to go into the kitchen. She did but brought it out in a plastic cup, which was melting. Plastic cups are available in the bar area. The room itself is spartan, and I do mean spartan, with a folding chair and an end table that act as a desk. At least a dorm room has a desk or a designated study area. The sink is in the room itself, not in the bathroom. The bathroom ceiling leaked, dripping water on you as you used the toilet. There was staining on the ceiling, leaving me to believe the leak was not recent. Why didn't house keeping see this? Makes one wonder. Want to iron clothes? They have communal ironing areas on every other floor. You better believe I will NOT be staying at a Moxy again!!

No frills Marriott. Good safe location, 1/2 mi from Bourbon St & walkable to many sites. Comfortable lobby area. Staff at check in & bar very inconsistent. Bartender only offered one of us the free Moxy drink upon check in. Big signs written about Happy Hour special drink prices but woman bartender told us that stopped when Covid began. (Then erase it—it’s written in chalk!) One young man at check in desk friendly & helpful while women seemed like they’d rather be anywhere else. We always waited for desk workers who ignored people standing there. Rooms are simple, no dressers or closets but lots of pegs on walls, smart TVs, folding chair & small table. However, they were never cleaned, no towels changed or beds made for 4 nights, even after we mentioned it. When we asked woman at checkout to call a cab, she just handed us a card & said it was only one they knew about. Hotel itself is fine, but many of the workers seem to need training in customer service & better communication.
Customer Service Is Dead!

We booked 6 nights through Travelocity at this hotel, months before hurricane Ida. 2 weeks before we were due to check in, the hurricane hit. We couldn't get in contact with the hotel because they had no electricity and were closed. We contacted corporate and were told that we had to deal with Travelocity directly. For over 2 weeks, Travelocity tried to get in contact with the hotel and had no success. Every 24 hours or so, we would receive an email from Travelocity stating that they couldn't get through to the hotel. Everyday, we would go on the hotel's website and there would be a message that stated the hotel was closed. The day before we were scheduled to check in, we get an email from the hotel asking if we were coming. That really angered me. Travelocity couldn't get through to the hotel for weeks and neither could we, and they email me the day before acting like we hadn't been communicating with them this whole time. The day of our check in arrived and the hotel was still closed. The day we were set to check out arrives, and the hotel was still closed. Still no answer from the hotel. A few days after our original check out date, we get an email from Travelocity that the hotel finally responded and they would not honor a refund. We contacted corporate again and they told us and I quote "when it comes to cancellations due to weather, we are not jerks. We will issue a refund. Call them again and tell them you have just spoken to corporate and they will issue a refund". We called the hotel again, gave them all our information and they acted like they had no idea who we were. We received a second email from the hotel stating that they would not honor a refund. We finally called our credit card company and explained everything. They did a charge back. This is no way to do business. We booked 6 nights at this hotel and never stayed one night due to Ida. Somehow that was our fault. Shady hotel. Don't stay there.
Never again will I stay here

This hotel was sub par at best. There were visible bleach stains in the carpet and damage to the walls on the hallway on our floor. There were ants in our room and when we notified the housekeeping they told us it was not our cleaning day. The bar staff did not use proper techniques and the lobby area was unkempt
This hotel is a mixed bag of good and bad

I'm just going to cut to the chase on this one" Pros: * Price - came in about 1/3 less that I normally pay a night in New Orleans even though we had booked the best room type that the hotel offers * Bar - this applies only to the cocktails but I must say they were pretty darn good, they seem to have have an excellent mixology program * Quirky touches of humor - my favorite was the cover of the drain in the shower, it said "The Deep End" Cons: * The garbage cans on the sidewalk - they are literally 3 feet from the front door, in fact they're directly in front of the doors so you have to walk around them to get into the entrance * Room condition - so many little things wrong with the room. Nothing major at all but the most annoying for me was that the latch on the air vent right next to my bed was broken so the door made a racket when the automatic fan turned on * The bar is the front desk - this in its self is not a con, just the fact that everyone that needed anything (including a cocktail) crowded around the bar, so I spent a lot of time waiting in line * Requests at the bar/front desk were never fulfilled - request 1: there are no batteries in one of our TV remotes, can we please got replacements? request 2: the door on the air vent makes a racket, can you send someone to look at it? request 3: we've used all the towels, can we please get some fresh ones? Would I stay there again? Nope. But I do have to say again, the price was just spectacular for area
