Fair but far from great

We spend 8 nights at the Fairfield Inn in Times Square/Manhattan. As a general line the whole experience was a 5 out of 10. The hotel offers just enough for a decent stay: OK bedrooms and great location. Rooms: The size of the room is OK for 2 people. We booked a 2 double bed bedroom for 3 people and it was a little awkward to move around. Storage isn't enough even for 1 person. The bathroom is OK. Beds are comfortable. Amenities: The room has a kettle with few tea bags and coffee samples, small fridge, safe, microwave, clothing iron and a tv with Netflix. All in good condition. Cleaning: The cleaning service just operates every other day and the cleaning days weren't that clean. We didn't always get the full set of towels (1 towel per person, rarely got hand towels) needed in the room and it was barely dusted. Entrance and services: The hotel hosts a large number of guests which usually crowd at the lobby making it difficult to access the help counter. Elevators don't suffice the daily transit to the lobby. The high number of guests and floors create long lines every morning during breakfast hours for people to go up and down their room. Breakfast was poor. We all understand the challenges of serving a good breakfast during covid, but it was far from good. The choices were limited and the quality of the food was towards bad. Staff: Everyone was nice and helpful. Location: Location is great. Super centric and easy to travel around the island by metro, walking, bus or taxi. Lots of restaurants and entertainment close by. Probably the best asset of this hotel. Overall, the experience wasn't bad, but far from great. When you spend your days walking around and eating outside you expect to arrive to a clean and fully equipped room where you can rest peacefully.
Very pleasant stay, brilliant location and great complimentary breakfast

Clean rooms although very small but perfect for a base whilst exploring NYC. Brilliant location way to get to and from the airport using public transport. We really enjoyed eating on 9th Avenue which is a very short walk. Great complimentary breakfast although the restaurant is not able to be used due to covid restrictions there was always somewhere to sit in the lobby. It was a huge bonus being able to sit on the roof top bar even though the bar isn’t currently open to serve drinks. Very clean hotel, all staff very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants good value for money.
Good stay but...

Not a lot to say about the hotel location (it is where it is) and/or size, same thing. I will just focus in what it wasn't so good: * There was a problem with the payment when we arrved. The guy there showed absolutely no interest about it, and continued doing some stuff with his computer ignoring me, while I was puzzled thinking what to do. * This hotel will charge you twice in your credit card. When you arrive, it will make an authorization for the whole stay. And when you leave, will make another charge for the stay, instead of taking it from the authorization. Took them 3 weeks to drop the authorization. In that time they completely ignored my mails asking about it. * The 1st time the housekeeping was done, I noticed they reprogrammed the AC unit to keep it off and with a lower temperature by default. I guess that they're told to do so in order to save in the electric bill. * The second housekeeping sweep left no bathtub towels. I had to go down to reception and ask for them when we arrived at night after a long day. Apart from this points, the hotel is exactly what you might expect based on its description and website. Nothing more, nothing less. I wouldn't go back to this hotel though. The bad points were bad enough. Specially the 2 ones (lack of empathy from the desk guy, and "charging twice" for the stay). The other points I know they just might happen.

Fantastic little hotel. A few minutes walk from Times sq on West 40th st. Plenty of delis and fast food nearby. Foyer was decorated for Christmas and was lovely. Always spotless and staff checked vaccine status checking in. Room was a good size for a New York hotel. 8 rooms per floor. Two large double beds and a decent bathroom with bath tub. Our room overlooked a rear alleyway and we heard no street noise over night at all! Room was well equipped only complaint would be a few coat hooks behind door when you come in would be helpful. Breakfast was amazing though busy. Waffles eggs cereal pastries fruit to taste and unlimited drinks. Staff were doing an amazing job serving and cleaning. Not enough seats so be prepared to get it to go. We couldn’t fault this hotel in anyway and would definitely be back.
