Servicable - but needs updating
We are locals who had to stay here while there was an issue with our apartment. Price was good and it was nearby and the reviews looked positive. The good thing about this hotel is that it is located in a good neighborhood - close enough to places where tourists might want to go but not in the middle of Times Square. It's clean (other than dusty in some places), the guy at the door was nice, and it's cheap for NYC standards. The bed was really comfortable and the AC worked well and wasn't too loud. For the bad - it's really beat up... stains, dings, dents, holes in the sheets, knobs loose - the wear and tear of a city hotel that hasn't been able to keep up. The room, and the bathroom, are really small (but it's a city hotel...so it's expected). We had no soap, shampoo, toilet paper, or hair dryer and the remote was broken on the TV (volume only - could not change channels). There was a Keurig coffee maker but no coffee or supplies (it wasnt plugged in anyway) We went down and got soap and toilet paper, and a hair dryer - but decided not to bother with TV anyway. Internet was strong enough to stream a show on my laptop. Found out the hair dryer was broken the next morning so I went to work a little more unkempt than I planned. The lobby is really beat up and no place to really hang out. I imagine if you are a budget traveler/business who will spend no time in the hotel except to sleep than this is a good choice. If you want to impress someone or have a romantic stay (or need a break from renovations/boiler breakdowns/fire/floods/quarantine) - you might want a little nicer place.
Great Job During Covid!
I stayed here during Covid and they did an amazing job of making me feel safe. You may have heard some hotels are accepting homeless in as per the city's request due to shelters being full. This is not one of the locations participating in that. They even had security at the door to only let you in if you had a room key. SCENE They are a small quaint hotel. Check in was quick and easy. There isn't much of a scene here as bars in NYC have been closed since Covid started. (They just started re-opening for Valentines day 20201) There was some outside seating so if you are going in spring things should pick up as things reopen. It looked like they have a small bar as well as a small restaurant attached. FOOD N/A - No food was being served while I was there. However, there was no problem with me ordering in. The Smith is right down the street and they have amazing food with a great ambiance and cool outside seating! ROOM The Two Double Bed Room was amazing! I had a great view of the city. In typical NYC city leaving, the space was pretty tight, but more than functional for a comfortable spot to sleep. I'm used to the noise of the city having lived in NYC, so just to warn you if you need quiet when you sleep I would suggest a room that does not face the street. You may face a brick wall, but it's better than being up all night with the sounds of city traffic, construction, and New Yorkers yelling in the streets. I stayed for 4 nights so they did not plan to clean my room to cut down on contact (they give you room a deep clean after 5 days). I was welcome to stop at the desk and get new sheets at any time. I was also welcome to coffee machines etc. I called down and was given fresh towels whenever I wanted. I left my dirty towels under the sink and there was plenty of space for me in the bathroom still. AMENITIES N/A - Everything was closed due to Covid. They said I was welcome to room amenities upon request. LOCATION This location is IDEAL! It's right in the middle of Manhattan and is walking distance to some big attractions. Just to name a few, about 10 min to Herald Square, 20 min to Times Square, and it's right next to the subways making it convenient to get around town. MUSTS If you don't mind a little noise at night, the views of the city were amazing. I stayed on a high floor and my views were amazing. Travelandledger Tips - You can always keep the TV on at night if you need to drown out any city noise. I liked the idea that they did not come to clean because it meant me coming in contact with less people and not having to re-clean things I was paranoid about every time I came back to the room.
Great location but poor quality
I stayed in this hotel with 2 friends and we booked 1 room with 2 double beds. When we got there were no towels available, the toilet was clogging every day and they didn't clean the room. The location was great though and the hotel allowed us to do the early check in for free.
Holiday Inn Manhattan 6th Ave Chelsea New York
Excellent stay and the best attention of all the reception service of Katherine. It is very nice, it really cares about finding the best solutions for the needs of the clients, it makes the accommodation more comfortable. Good location and very clean place.
Need to do better
I have stayed in the property many times in the past and this was my most disappointing stay. Check in took a long time. I was given a room with a non-functioning television. When I called downstairs, nobody picked up the phone, so I packed up my stuff and went downstairs. I was given another room and the television did not work in that room either. Again, I dialed with the in-room phone to reception and there was no answer, so I called the hotel's main number from my cell phone. The front desk agent picked up and said she would send an engineer. I also mentioned the non-functioning phones. The engineer attempted to fix the tv, but it kept going on and off, so I was not able to watch the final debate. There were guests congregating in the hall on my floor and made noise into the morning. Guests came on to elevators without masks and there were no signs limiting the number of guests in an elevator. I did not feel safe as a result, I did not get a good night's sleep, and checked out early. All in all, a terrible experience as a Spire Elite member.
