Very nice in Nice!

We have stayed here several times, but this was probably the least impressive. There was an strange odour throughout the hotel, however the staff were as polite and welcoming as always. The hotel is smack in the middle of the high street, so it has the best location you can dream of!

We had Airbnb issues and ended up stayinhg here for one night - the hotel let us camp out in the foyer with our luggage in the hold the following day until our issues were resolved. Very grateful. It;s a great little hotel and couldnt be more central!
Wonderful budget friendly hotel

Welcoming and helpful staff, superb location situated in the heart of shopping and other events, and close to the old city center. Very nice breakfast buffet that also catered to those with food allergies. We keep coming back😊😇
A cheerful, non-luxurious hotel in a perfect Nice location!”

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the non-luxurious Univers Hotel because it was a short 3-night stay for sightseeing therefore, I never spend any time at hotels other than to sleep. I highly recommend this hotel for short stays as it is ideally situated with a 10-minute walk to the sizeable pebbled beach so bring your swimming shoes. Be aware that hiring sun loungers and a brolly can be expensive at up to €20. *Get the Blueline tram at the airport to Jean Médecin approx 20-30mins and make sure to validate the ticket on the tram €1.50 *Walk to the hotel for 5-7mins opposite Galeries Lafayette at Place Massena. *You can walk 10 minutes to the main train line to travel to Antibes, Cannes, Marseille and Monaco but you will need to queue for 20 mins to purchase tickets from the white (not green or blue) machines which are approximately €5.00. The Hotel: *Reception: Lovely, helpful, friendly staff. *Breakfast: Breakfast was not included in my holiday flight package, therefore, if I were to purchase it, it would have cost €15 while people who book their stay online get it for half price. I chose to eat out but would have purchased it at half price if the option had been available. *Room: pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and while the decor is dated, it is clean. *The shower is cramped (will impact on a tall person as the handle goes into your back) and leaks on the floor if the showerhead is not pointed in the correct position. *No bath products except a hand wash and shower gel so bring your own shampoos and moisturisers. *No tea and coffee facilities but water may be purchased from a vending machine in the foyer. *Wifi is weak upstairs ( I was on the 5th floor) but a better quality in the foyer. The connection stayed on longer with my iPhone but kept cutting out on my android device. *Beware of mosquitoes in the foyer and bring your insect repellant. *The room has a safe, aircon-which doesn't get really cold but cooled the room, a choice between feather or foam pillows (I like foam so glad there was that option), a lift, hard bed and flat pillows, moveable bedhead (will bang on the walls so be careful), plenty of sockets, option to get beach towels from the reception which aren't huge in size and can be older or newer looking but grateful there was this option so I didn't have to bring one in my hand luggage, phone to reception (dial 9) and a room for left luggage but beware it is your responsibility. No fridge in the room. The single room on the 5th floor doesn't have a window which opens but instead has a skylight. It's not grand but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Univers!
Location is the only positive

For 2 nights, I experienced the exact same cons as a previous Traveler wrote: Location: Central and 5 min to seaside, 3 min to Tram direct to Airport Staff: most polite but unable to resolve or fix any issues as occurred Room: Terrible - very dark, dark blue carpets, I had a tiny room on 3floor with lights continue to flicker in room and bathroom, the metal shower gel holder broke and was still broken on the floor on day 3...the worst was the constant Smell of Bog/Damp was very strong. I asked to change room to three x persons at reception and on the next morning was told there was a spare room but Id have to pay extra. On principle I refused to pay additional costs. Beach towel was give which was size of handtowel. I did not look forward to returning to the hotel at all.
