A 'budget' hotel, not a 'Boutique' hotel............

The problem is where to start. Unfortunately quirky décor alone can not make this self styled 'boutique' hotel anything more than the budget hotel it is...........ignore the 4*s on the wall, i think the plaque was stolen from another establishment nearby. Our first impression was that the photographer who took the website images had done an AMAZING job. The spaciousness portrayed on the website both in the lobby and in the rooms simply wasn't there. The communal carpets were horrendously dirty, The walls were paper thin (you can listen in detail to someone on their phone in the room next door), The rooms at the front are noisy from the constant train and road noise whilst the rooms at the back (whilst quieter) are claustrophobic with little space to manoeuvre around the beds. None of the rooms has working A/C (for a while if the reviews are correct) which was only mentioned as an after thought to us as we entered the lift ........BUT, they said, we have supplied you with a fan (turned out to be a grubby, dusty number that hadn't been cleaned in months) The feeling of generally being run down and neglected was overwhelming and that feeling was all pervading including the staff. Did we have a wonderful time in Nice..........absolutely Would we stay here again..........they would have to pay us! Because nothing can be 100% bad, i must say that it is extremely convenient for the train station!!!!!!!!

Arrived at 9pm to be told at reception they were full. Despite having booked and paid in advance we were told with a shrug that it was hotels.com's fault for overbooking. No hotels in the area left so we had to pay 400EUR for a night in a horrible hostel instead. On our honeymoon :( When we told hotels.com to try and get our money back they said they would contact Villa Bougainville to confirm they didn't accommodate us so we could get a refund on the stay. The hotel lied to hotels.com and denied that this happened. We only got our money back because hotels.com gave us a "one time exception" refund.

We arrived to the hotel in the afternoon and were informed that the AC is broken and that they can provide fans instead. They promised a 30% discount on the room rate. As the happy curlture chain has many hotels in Nice, the receptionist was very helpful in trying to find us a room in a different hotel but they were all fully booked, so we stayed for one night. A very hot night in august. The staff was kind and helpful. Upon check out we were told that management is not offering 30% discount on the room rate anymore and that only full rate applied. It was impossible to argue that they were the ones who told us about the discount and that a change of mind is very unprofessional. This simple fact made me change all my view of the happyculture chain, making it more money oriented than people oriented. No one told us that the AC was not working for almost a week and we had to deal with it upon arrival. unprofessional. Unethical. Liars.
Great budget hotel!

The location for this one was the only tricky part... but once inside the place was great! The whole staff was super helpful- especially Karina- and we really enjoyed the never ending coffee bar. The air conditioning wasnt working and it was a really hot night so that was the only bummer. But they were happy to bring us a fan and gave us a few bottles of complimentary cold water to make up for it. For the fact that the price also included breakfast- this place was a good deal.
My new home Niceoise

Small hotel -- which is nice; small rooms -- which is France. Great staff -- which is what you want, all things considered. If there is any one thing that sets this hotel apart, it is the staff. There were a few things not quite right, a loose door handle, my wanting a bigger shower... little things. But they did everything to satisfy my whims. No complaints, only smiles and a willingness to make my stay a good one. From the manager to the day staff and the night staff -- perfect. All that and a good breakfast too. Convenient to the train station, not a far walk from the center or from the waterfront, good value.
