My stay was incredible from the very first moment that we arrived. Staff super friendly and welcoming. We stayed in suite #720 and it was very spacious. There were two bathrooms two balconies and super cozy. We had breakfast at The Front Yard and the food was delicious and with a good variety of exquisite dishes. My husband and I had a wonderful time and we can’t wait to come back soon!

Ideal hotel and location

A really well presented and clean hotel not far from the main tourist spots of LA with a car rental. Myself and my husband stayed here for 5 nights with the aim of exploring . The room was really lovely, with great amenities including probably the best coffee we had in America! The pool area was quite small but we didn’t spent a lot of time there (there were a lot of kids splashing around - it was Easter weekend). We did have a bit of a problem when we first arrived after a 13hour flight from London (which was initially delayed and then further delayed on the runway at LAX due to a power cut at the air port) so ended checking in at the time of 00:30. We were very very tired, and very very thirsty as I explained to the check in staff. I asked where we might be able to get a drink/bottle of water from at this time. She explained that most shops would be closed at this time as was the hotel bar but there were vending machines on the 4th floor of the building she told us we were staying in. Off we went to find our room/vending machine. After 30minutes of dragging 4 suitcases around on a wild goose chase of lift hopping and trying to find refreshments/our room - we found the vending machine was empty and our room was in a totally different building. At this point we’re pretty grouchy but easy mistake for what I am assuming is a new member of staff (although this I though would be basic info). She did apologise and re direct us again to our room/ vending machine when I was desperate for a drink and sleep now. It’s now 1am, I’ve finally dragged 2 cases to our room (hooray) and my husband has dragged 2 cases around 4 floors to find a vending machine. Out of stock again. At this point I’m slurping slurping from the tap of our room (having no idea if tap water is safe or not but I’m desperate now) only to find 2 bottles of water in the fridge concealed in a cupboard in our room (for a small fortune of course)! I was very annoyed that neither reception staff had mentioned this to us. We were also over charged for our rental parking by one night which was immediately rectified once I pointed this out upon check out. Although $29 per night seemed pretty steep to me but hey, it’s LA. Definitely wasn’t going to pay an extra $4 per night for valet parking when we could park ourselves almost right outside our building entrance ourselves. Had a meal at the Front Yard, the hotel restaurant, one night and I must say that sadly it was probably the worst meal we had in our 3 weeks in America. Maybe we picked poorly but we had the Valley Fried Chicken to share which was dry and my mouth was shredded for about a week. There was a huge amount of rock hard fried batter with very little chicken. The service was rather slow too. Over all though, the hotel and our room was really ideal for our exploring, the bed was super comfortable and huge! Just a shame about the couple of issues we experienced.

Fun old-school California Vibe

We really enjoyed our stay at The Garland. We were visiting Universal Studios and found the location, with the complimentary shuttle, perfect. The room type (family) also gave us sufficient room and perfect segregation of the bunk beds to feel like we weren't on top of each other. The room was clean and the beds comfortable and there was very little to no noise even though we were next to the elevator. I wouldn't call this a boutique hotel as it's quite big with many different buildings that gives it more of a motel or mid-level hotel feel. I was a bit surprised by this when we arrived--probably because I relied on Tripadvisor reviews describing it as a boutique hotel. The Garland itself accurately advertises itself as a 3 star hotel . That being said, don't let the 3 star mark keep you from staying here--it most definitely has a fun old-school California vibe that is executed very well. This is also true for the pool--it's not a resort pool--it very much has an old school retro vibe to it as well. I am a bit of a hotel snob and didn't regret my stay here one bit. The staff are top notch. They are 5 star. Friendly, engaging, efficient and helpful, I could find mo fault in the service. The onsite store is great with fun gifts and great snacks and the on-site restaurant is fantastic as is evidenced by the crowds of non-hotel guests who come to eat there. I really can't find any fault with The Garland--the only reason I have given it 4 stars is because I do think it's a bit overpriced for a 3 star hotel, even one that is very well executed. That being said, LA accommodation seems to be over priced more generally.

I loved The Garland for our family stay with 2 kids ages 12 and 14! Loved the pool area and courtyard space. Felt like a mini resort vacation. They were very family friendly and professional. We utilized the shuttle to Universal a few times which was fantastic to have access to. The restaurant was great and the bartenders were really fantastic at the lobby bar, even though they were crazy busy they still kept a smile. Everyone was so very helpful. I absolutely loved the overall vibe of the hotel. Cannot wait to come back again!

Staff were very polite and helpful and our room request was accommodated at check in. The hotel had a brilliant vibe day and night. Family friendly & the staff work incredibly hard to make your stay a perfect one. The only comment we would like to make is that the service at breakfast could be improved. The service snd standard of food wasn't very consistent, making it feel overpriced. Despite this we would still recommend .
