No bathroom on ground level by all of the pools- so perplexed

We went to the Avista after being in town with a larger family group- a vacation after our vacation. It was great. Room was lovely, side view of ocean & Ocean drive which I enjoyed. The staff in the parking area were Fabulous!!!!!! Courteous, welcoming, friendly, helpful- great ambassadors !! Room was lovely.
I hear that due to “ flooding you can’t have a bathroom on the 1st floor - BUT the Ashworth does have a bathroom on the ground level a bit away from the pool but very nearby so I am confused as why you can NOT have a bathroom. You can NOT easily find the stairs- I helped a woman do so. She had 2 young girls searching for the stairs due to the line for the 3 elevators was so long and she had been waiting for a Long time she said . When I made my way up to the 1st floor bathroom from the ocean( hadn’t seen the port a sans) never saw anyone else in there, never any water or sand on the floor. Just didn’t really look like being used by swimmers if you know what I mean. There is a lazy river outside, 2 hot tubs and 2 pools. Inside a pool, hot tub and I think lazy river also inside. A lot of people in all the pools & hot tubs - BUT NO bathrooms down there. So where is everyone peeing. YUK. I just could NOT go into the crowded pools which I do enjoy after the ocean. They had a dj which was fun , some beach chairs in the sand by the pool & beach bar with food .The front desk staff was so helpful when my husband was having an issue with wifi ( not me just him ☺️) They were lovely
The convenience of the golf cart to the parking garage and to the hotel is great- they have the number posted in many places “ call, we’ll come pick you up at your car” The guys were great
The young gentleman who checked your card coming in to the garage was so friendly and welcoming . Their housekeeping staff looks so professional dressed in black & white. I can truly say it does appear, the staff like their jobs- & they like to help- they are good people. CON ::Unfortunately - I JUST can not get over the lack of a bathroom by the pool- Sorry.
Cornelius Hunt - BEST part of our stay at Avista!

We've stayed at Avista several times now. Overall, it's ok. Pros: easy access to beach, clean room, beautiful views (i.e., if you book that view, lol), great location, friendly staff for the most part; Cornelius Hart has been, for several stays, a staff member that I LOVE to run into! He is professional, courteous and most of all, a genuine hard worker who actually enjoys his job and appreciates those who stay at the resort! When I think back on our vacations at Avista, I ALWAYS remember Cornelius first, lol. He is funny and just a loving individual in general! If he ever takes a position at another resort, that's exactly where we'll be staying! This review of mostly Cornelius, lol, may seem overboard, it is certainly not. Personally, I was not in the best of moods this past week but he made me laugh, helped us out and most of all, in these times, could not care less that we were not of the same race/creed; treated us as equals as we did the same and it was GENUINE, not fake! Cornelius, if you are reading this, thank you for being the man that you are, it really made a difference in our stay! You ROCK!
Now my cons of Avista as follows:
- No bathrooms at ground level which is tough due to elevator wait time and not everyone can climb the stairs
- Pool side bars close WAY too early, a concern for many who were staying at the resort
- Too many folks parking in the $2 lot next door/other and easily getting into the pool area where I had to spend thousands to stay there
- Parking deck across the street is just WAY too small, have actually seen folks crash just trying to find a parking space
- MOST of all the coffee situation is sub-par. Having to wait in line to get a tiny cup of coffee with creamer cups is just insane., for what people pay there should be a self-serve coffee area with various flavors and milk/creamer pumps available. I've never stayed at a resort where getting a cup of coffee was so disappointing.
IF we stay here again, we will certainly bring our own coffee supplies (powdered creamer in room is not sufficient at this price) and buy an old car to park in the deck so I don't have to worry about it.
Thank you Cornelius, your professionalism, charm and humor helped out to overlook the negatives I mentioned above! We actually talked about you several times on the ride back to Charlotte! GOD bless you sir!

Impulsive short trip

The facilities are well maintained and the staff is quite friendly, from the time you stepped out of your vehicle someone is there to assist you. Our room had been updated with new furniture, appliances etc. The facility has a lot of activity outside from swimming, to large games for outside play in the sand. There is an outside bar/restaurant at the pool area. Cornelius Hunt was there for our arrival to assist with luggage and again for our departure. He took my spouse to the parking area to retrieve our car and even said we had the option to have him carry the luggage also. If there was anything that could have improved this vacation it would have been not to have people smoking marijuana around us at the hotel or the cost of the nightly rental. Just a comparison, a penthouse suite, ocean front, sleeps 8 very comfortably, with a stocked cabana on the Gulf coast of FL cost me $1700 for an entire week. This trip was $777.00 for two nights.

Wouldn’t recommend. I booked a front ocean view room and got a side ocean view room overlooking a gross roof. Right above the garbage containers that stunk to high heaven. The couch in my room was disgustingly dirty. I had palmetto bugs in my room. Refrigerator didn’t work. Dryer stopped working. Thankfully they did fix it in a timely manner. Most of the staff is rude. They had a bunch of drunks sitting on the stairs of the lazy river throwing people into the lazy river. Not one person stopped it. Parking garage elevators went out for a full day.
Shout out to Cornelius

We have been coming to The Avista for probably six years. Some trips have been planned long in advance and others have been more last minute. Several times I’ve called because I couldn’t make the reservation online and the staff was always able to find dates to accommodate our schedule.
The hotel has always been very clean and well maintained. Any issues we have had have been addressed in a very timely manner. I especially enjoy the text messages asking how our stay is.
I’d like to give e a very special shout out to Cornelius. He’s been there as long as we have been coming. We made a special connection early on taking about our passion for Tae Kwon Do and he had remembered us ever since. He is always very warm and welcoming. He always had a smile to welcome us when we get there and every morning when we set out for the day! If you get a chance to meet him you will know how special he is!
