Beautiful place to stay
What else can you want other than beautiful Vanderbilt Beach? This is a great place to stay right on the best beach in Florida. Our family stayed in one of the condo rooms on the bay side and the rooms were all newly remodeled and beautiful. The kitchen has all the dishes and cookware you need to make your own meals. Very spacious and great view of the sunrise over the bay and from our front window we could see the beach and ocean across the street. Very clean and well maintained. Wish they had a grill for guests to use(but then you wouldn’t eat at their restaurant) and the pool was a bit small, however the kids all enjoyed the little fountains they’d have on sporadically shooting into the pool. They provide towels, lounge chairs and umbrellas to all of their guests right on the beach, it’s nice but can get a bit crowded and there’s not a lot of beachfront space since the restaurant seating takes up a large portion of it. Is this a place for the boys to play frisbee on the beach? Definitely not! I thought it was a bit stuffy feeling and we were one of the only families there. The entire beach front is taken up with lounge chairs and there’s really no room for children to play or build sand castles. At high tide there is even less room. The only real bad thing that we experienced was the restaurant. Poor service, food quality wasn’t that great and of course, you’re going to pay that extra money to have your cheeseburger in paradise. Our server couldn’t seem to get our order correct and it came out in several stages only to see that our cheeseburgers were still not cooked all the way. The cheeseburgers were nothing special, just regular cafeteria meat and even the pastrami sandwich wasn’t that good either. For the money we paid, and the high standards throughout the rest of the hotel, I was expecting better quality food. We paid a lot of money to get nothing right or what we wanted. A waiter is constantly going around asking for drink orders throughout the day as well. Made me feel bad, like I had to sneak my bag of chips for the kids to snack on at the beach. Overall, the hotel is beautiful and very well maintained in a great location. I’d think twice about the restaurant, but other than that a great place to stay.
A gem of a hotel
My husband and I stayed at this hotel many years ago and I decided to come back with my family. This hotel is awesome, right on the beach. The room was great and comfortable, equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, stove top, all utensils, and everything else you might need . The a/c was a little loud, but it was nice and cold. The pool is a little small, but who needs a pool when you have a beautiful beach right in front of your hotel. The beach chairs and umbrella were complimentary, which was a plus. We had dinner at the restaurant on site and the food was delicious. Would definitely come back.
Awesome and Amazing
Wife and I went down for a weekend to get away and were going to go to different places each night however one night here and we decided to add more. Great condo across the street and very close to the private beach and a wonderful time. Even with two hurricanes brewing in the gulf at the time. Loved it and we will be back in a few weeks!!!
Great Family Vacation Spot
We had a beautifully appointed 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo with a bay view. It had everything we needed and then some. The staff is wonderful, we were warmly welcomed upon check-in and everytime we interacted with a staff member it was a great experience. We especially enjoyed our lunch at The Turtle Restaurant. Georgie was our server and she was great!! Beach access is easy. We will definitely be returning.
Awesome hotel overall! We had a great time and loved staying here.
We stayed here during the COVID crisis from a Saturday to Saturday (7 nights). I am stating that up front because our experience is not normal AND I am giving a little leeway based on that. Our stay wasn't perfect and that is why I gave 4 stars and all of it wasn't due to COVID so I figured it was a fair rating for our stay. We were staying across the street on the canal side in a 2 bedroom condo. It was awesome having all that space. We had to cancel our trip to the Dominican Republic staying in an all inclusive. We were looking for a place that gave us space so we could eat and relax in the room with a family of 5 if for any reason we couldn't go many places. We found this hotel with a 2 bedroom condo and since FL is really shady right now on staying in short term rentals we were happy we found this option. Things we loved: The room was amazing. It had three tables (2 inside and 1 outside). It had plenty of space for a family of 5 (we have three kids). The room had a great view of the canal and you could open up a lot of the wall in the master bedroom and the living area to the outside. We didn't do this because of the heat in July but it is an awesome feature. The porch is screened and is a great place to hang out in the evenings. The kitchen was nice and had a normal sink with a disposal. It is very easy to cook and live in the 2 bedroom units. Also there was an ice maker in the fridge which was very handy! We loved the beach in front of the hotel. Our kids had a great time looking for shells and making sand castles. The beach attendants were great and very friendly. I had a couple nice discussions with them while we were out there. Very down to earth and eager to help out wherever you need help. The hotel did a great job spacing the chairs out in the morning and it was easy to get a spot when we got down there at around 10am every day. We were also able to get more chairs, tables, and umbrellas if needed. The beach attendants also offered to help if anyone got too close to use from the public. Basically they space out chairs so the hotel occupies the entire beach in front of the hotel. If someone from the public beach comes and sits next to the chairs they are not obeying social distancing so it keeps the area nice and clear. Finally for the most part the front desk was nice and friendly and helped out in any way you needed it. It really feels like they care more than a chain hotel would. I really do like these hotels that are locally owned more than chains. Items to improve on: Being up front these are minor things and in no way ruined our vacation. I am just bringing them up because I think if the hotel improved on these fronts it would be truly amazing. When we checked in we were asked how often we wanted our room cleaned. Due to COVID I really appreciated being asked this. I told them I would call them back after I spoke to my wife since she stayed in the car with the kids to not flood their lobby with people. We decided we would just have them clean our room once on a Wednesday when we were scheduled to do a tour of the everglades national park and would be gone all day. I called the front desk and she said she would let them know. On other days they would knock on our door around 9am and I would swap out trash and towels. They seemed a bit stingy with the trash bags. For a 2 bedroom unit it would have been nice to have extra trash bags. Especially since we were only eating maybe 1 meal out of the room due to COVID. On Wednesday we came back and it only looked like they made one out of the three beds and didn't swap, vacuum, or clean anything. So basically they came in, swapped out trash/towels, and made one bed. Not a good cleaning at all. I didn't say anything because Wed was the only day we were out of the room for an extended period. It was raining off/on all week so we would go back and forth between the beach and the room for meals and to wait out the storms. The other issue we had is the furniture in the room makes A LOT of noise when they are moved. This includes every time someone would sit down in a chair in the living room and it would move back slightly. If someone would move a dining table back to sit and put it back. Every time there was any chair movement it could be heard throughout the entire unit. We tried to not make too much noise but it seemed difficult. The people above us unfortunately would start 'moving' furniture from about 9pm to midnight every night and it made it difficult to sleep in our unit. A simple fix would be to put foam pads on the feet of the furniture so it doesn't scrape the tile in the room. This would made for more sound sleeping especially considering the people above us seemed to be night owls. The kitchen has a lot of materials for cooking except zero baking sheets. I called to ask if they had some and they answered that they have no baking sheets in the units. This makes no sense. 50% of the things you would cook in an oven require baking sheets. Thankfully walmart had some small ones for $1.50 we bought and had for the room so we could bake things in the unit. Another major cooking item is no grills on property. I understand not allowing people to bring their own grills but with such a great option to have 2 bedroom units it would have been nice if they would have had a couple grills on property. Even if they didn't have the grills on property it would still be a 5 star rating but I missed having them. Another major thing is the restaurant when it comes to being on the beach. It is really difficult to get food or drinks for the beach. It would be nice if they had something like that available. It feels really awkward to walk into a high end restaurant in a dripping swimsuit to get something. In addition the cost is crazy expensive. The beach attendant said they tried something for a week but stopped when I mentioned this to him. I understand the location and clientele but it would be nice if they had something simple for the residents of the hotel that was more affordable and simple for the beach. Stuff like chips and guacamole or finger foods like sandwiches. After a day out there we started carrying our own stuff to the beach because I didn't like walking through a fancy restaurant to pay fancy prices to get snacks. I wish they could do away with the towel cards. It would be nice to just check in/out towels on an iPad. I know they don't want people stealing towels but I would rather have something that is touchless (especially during COVID) and doesn't have the risk of losing a small card and have to pay for a towel. The beach attendant already has an iPad out there for waivers for beach rentals. It would be nice to use that for checking in/out towels digitally without having to worry about managing cards when you have swimsuits on etc... Finally when I would go into the front lobby it seemed like 75% of the time the front desk person was on the phone. When you go into the lobby on the phone they wouldn't even acknowledge you. Often these were long phone calls and not even a hi or anything while they were on the phone. The only gesture when you entered the lobby was they would pull up their mask when you entered. Twice the person at the desk didn't say anything to me and after several minutes another person would come out of the back and help me. Conclusions: Even with the possible improvements this is an amazing place. If this was a standard hotel I would have knocked this down a couple more points but because of how great this place is they got 4*. We would definitely love to come back.
