Exceptional pub in a delightful part of the world
We were a party of six who have just returned from a stay at the Red Lion and what a great stay we had! This is a charming inn set in a beautiful village just outside Hexham and was an ideal stop for us. The accommodation is clean and provided everything we needed but the real find was the warm welcome and the great food and drink. Andy and Sue were great hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We would definitely use again if we were in the area.
Cracking pub
Lovely pub, warm and welcoming. Best steak and ale pie I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten a lot of pies). Good, friendly service as well. I visited with my two parents, but would also work perfectly for couples or solo diners/drinkers.
lovely meal, great staff
first time here for a meal as we are stopping nearby. Lovely and attentive staff. Service was very good. I had the steak and ale pie and the other two in the party had the game pie from the special board. It was presented in a way I had not seen before. Well cooked and tasty.
Rating of food and inn - three night stay
We stayed for three nights and ate at the restaurant in the evening on two nights. We had a room at the front, overlooking a sheep pasture. The room is spacious and part of the historic inn building. Beds were very comfortable, and the room was very clean. (Only one suggestion, please fix toilet roll holder as it’s loose and toilet roll always ended on floor...if dethreaded screw, replace or try a fixing with sealant to bottom.) The food on the first night - we had the garlic bread with camberet and pies. The pies are massive! Portions here are very generous so come hungry! I was less keen on the meal the second night. Breakfast was ok. Only suggestion here is to add more dessert options. Service was very attentive from waiting staff. We hope to return.
Wedding Anniversary break
This place and its staff are little short of amazing! We only stayed 1 night but I so wish we could have stayed longer. Next time though we will. Our room was amazing and so were the staff. Food was great too. You wouldn't think this was a 2*, they go above and beyond where many 3 and 4* fail to go. We applaud you and all your staff and can not wait to come back.
