I stayed at the Royal while on an annual trip with Rail Discoveries and was delighted to have a single room! My room was quiet with good facilities and a nice, comfy single bed! The two dinners we had were both excellent and breakfast was serve-yourself and fine.
Dated and overpriced

As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a very dated and tired hotel which could really do with a serous makeover. One night was one night too many! The only good thing about this hotel was the very friendly lady on reception. Otherwise you would be better off staying somewhere like the Premier Inn.
Very tired and dated

Pros :Central to Oban,Clean, friendly staff, reasonable breakfast . Cons: Hotel feels tired ,worn and forgotten .Room a reasonable size but dingy .Very limited parking spaces .Irritating electrical hum in room all night ,could not locate source . Nothing shouts out at me to come back again .
Could be great but in need of some TLC

If I could rate the staff separately from the building it would have been a 5 star facility, they were extremely helpful and definitely went over and beyond expectations to make our stay a very happy one, so thank you to all the staff. The building and rooms are in need of done refurbishment. Our room (216) was dark and dingy and very small. On the plus size it provided two chairs for the occupants to sit in, but not relax they were as hard as sitting on a rock! It’s location is excellent especially for taking advantage of trips to other islands such as Mull and Staffs. Car parking is very limited, although street parking is available and is free from evening until 9:00am. The bar restaurant was excellent, great food and good value. Throughout the Covid measures put in place made us feel safe.
