Charming place to stay in historic Olinda

Reviewed 30 july, 2019

The pousada consists of two old houses on opposite sides of the street. We were in the annexe right up at the top under the eaves, with a terrace and an outside bath. Yes this is a quirky place but it exudes charm and every room is different I'm sure. Our room was huge and bed comfortable and elegant with its four posters. The bathroom was a bit tired however and we had no hot water for 24 hours. Admittedly it had been raining nonstop but I think the override heater was not working as it did get fixed in the end. The first night we arrived late and the hotel gladly cooked us a meal, which was tasty, a local moqueca. Breakfasts are good, buffet style with eggs to order. Altogether a charming an friendly place despite not much English being spoken. But sign language seems to work!

May 2019 A wonderful week's stay

Reviewed 24 june, 2019

We loved our time here, flying to Recife from Rio, for a week's adventure and glimpse of the N.E. We had planned to spend some time/days in Recife, but Olinda was such a pleasure to explore and wander that we never made it! Pousada do Amparo was a great place to stay, with friendly helpful staff, very tasty breakfasts and evening meals. (I'm still savouring the shrimp and coconut dish!!) The building too with its old wood, arty objects, pool to dip into after a day's wandering was a delightful and relaxed place to return to. It's well-situated to explore the old town, and there's a super Bodega de Veio across the cobbled street where you can enjoy a chilled beer, some great music and welcome. We loved it, we even had a rooftop open-air bath! It's not a a modern Hilton-chain place and all the better for it,. The staff could not have been more friendly nor helpful. We loved it!

Old Charm

Reviewed 6 august, 2018

This old converted building has charm, but it comes at the expense of modern convenience. Our room was at the top of the building so it was hot and the outdoor shower meant exposure to bugs. The location is good for walking the circuit of the old town and for easily visiting the main square and its views. Breakfast was included and good. The front desk also helped us to arrange an affordable guide/driver to visit Recife.

Very disappointing

Reviewed 4 may, 2017

Nothing was quite right about this hotel - from the strange and unfriendly reception we received on arrival to the rooms which were less than clean and mosquito infested. We stayed at the top of the main house - I am not sure we could have got out in the case of a fire. In any case I was very glad to leave!

beautiful view

Reviewed 13 december, 2016

Very nice hotel in an old colonial house. Some rooms are perfect if you can choose one with view on the city of Recife... furnished other rooms can be disapointing for the price which can be really too much depending the season.... It can be noisy on week end with music late at night around there. I would say like some other ones here that breakfast is great it's simply basic for that kind of hotel on that range of price in Brazil... i would even say it's really better on posada 7 collinas where i've been later.
