More about the hotel
Belated Holiday escape
6 day stay with our Diamond member points. I called 3 times prior to check-in and asked for adjoining rooms. Was lied to 3 times and told hotel does not have adjoining rooms. Even at check-in I asked again. We get to our rooms only to find out one of them has connecting door to an end room. Rooms 222 and 224 MAGICALLY connect. Draw back rooms on West end of building are where the mechanicals are. So all time on the balcony your listening to a/c units. If you stay ask for an East side or middle of building room. 2nd floor has laundromat & exercise room. Parking garage is nice because it's connected to some lower hotel floors. So there's no waiting in lobby elevator. Just park your car on level your room is on. Pool could use some paint and repair. No maid service. Breakfast served with Covid restrictions. Beautiful oceanfront views.Grocery stores within 1/4 mile. Subway and Rotolos pizza across street. We'll stay again but now I know you have connecting rooms!
Rough Start
We booked an ocean view room two months prior to our visit. Upon arriving, I watched as a family left angrily when they realized their room was not available. When I told the lady at the front desk my name and gave a confirmation number, she told me the ocean view rooms had been overbooked. The manager on duty - Elizabeth- was not at the hotel, so the desk clerk (Shari maybe?) called her. Elizabeth offered me a deal on another room, but when I countered and we could not reach an agreement, they magically found an empty ocean view room. The desk clerk was very patient and helpful, and after the initial rough spot, the stay was fine.
no one cares
sad this place could be great but its not for the money pick another one you will be happier just call first to see if the front desk person is glad to hear from you if not call someone else its your chose
Quirky Christmas
We decided to use some of our Hilton points to take a family Christmas trip – December 25th – 28th, to end 2020 as unconventionally as it had been all year long. We checked in with no problems, put our bags in our room, and hit the beach to find treasures. After an afternoon exploring, having Christmas dinner, and enjoying the pool/hot tub, we settled in to our room to sleep. However, no sleep was to be had. There were….issues. Early the next morning, hubs and I went in search of coffee…only to be told it would not be out until 6 am….yikes. Now…keep in mind – no coffee on top of no sleep. I nicely explained to the gentleman at the desk my troubles with the room. He told me to come back at 7:30 and they would take care of my problem. Back down at 6 for coffee (FINALLY) and to watch the sunrise and walk the beach. Then back to the desk for the day shift to hear my woes at 7:30. Ms. Liz was there and went above and beyond to correct the problem! If we were willing to wait for a room to be cleaned, we would be upgraded to a larger room! On top of that, she refunded our points from the previous night! We were extremely pleased with the outcome and the customer service! THANK YOU AGAIN, MS. LIZ! GOD BLESS YOU!! Coffee & breakfast was always served with a smile and a friendly “Have a great day!” The ladies there had a great sense of humor and put up with the hub’s joking and teasing each day. The rooms, upon entering, were cleaned spectacularly and I felt safe going in with my family. When we moved to the new room, the ladies were still in the area cleaning and were friendly and professional. Told us to let them know if we needed anything. Only complaints for our stay (after our initial complaint was addressed) ….no coffee for early risers until 6 am. I didn’t see anyone wiping down tables/chairs between guests during breakfast. But I have to say, just because I did not see it, does not mean it didn’t happen. Maybe someone did?? And the condo next door.... try and stay on the other side of the hotel (east). It’s not the hotel’s fault the condo’s trash shoot & occupants are noisy.
"Plan B" Is Now Our "Plan A"
Our stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Orange Beach started out as our "Plan B". Another hotel we had previously booked down the road emailed us earlier this year to let us know they would not be opening the rest of the year due to hurricane damage. We thought "well, at least it's on the beach". First let me say, this hotel did not escape hurricane damage either. Anyone paying attention to the area between the pool and boardwalk can see that. HOWEVER, this hotel deserves 5 stars just for persevering and by being OPEN when so many others decided to just throw in the towel for the rest of the year. The area is convenient, nearby restaurants, convenience stores, and everything you need. There are no hotels on the beach immediately to the left which adds to its quiet ambience. The staff was friendly. The hotel was also amazingly clean for a "beach hotel". If you've stayed at many, you know exactly what I mean. The free breakfast was good in spite of the annoying measures implemented in order to keep contact to a minimum. And so awesomely cool.........by downloading the Hilton Honors app, I checked into the hotel, used my phone as as my digital room key, and then also checked out, without ever having to make contact with anyone at the front desk...EVER. The heated pool and hot tub were in full operation (which is something we all pay for and don't get to use lately). Perhaps, all this can be chalked up to "stepping up your game" at this particular time, but whatever the result driver, it was great. And best of all on my list, the bath/shower had a wonderfully awesome hot water supply. Don't laugh or knock this point until you try it. I have never, ever stayed in a hotel before that had that good of a hot water supply. It was a welcome treat after a long walk on the beach this time of year. Needless to say, next time we will be checking here and comparing rates first, as this former "Plan B" is now our "Plan A".
