More about the hotel
Place of Nightmares -Overlook Hotel
I stayed here in March 2020 just before everything was closed down. I booked a "mystery hotel " at 3 stars, and I have never been disappointed before, but this place was absolutely disgusting. I am not hard to please, but I don't think I will ever book like that again. The pool -freezing. Food-none. Towels poolside -none. I arrived by taxi at about midnight and my taxi driver literally had never heard of this hotel and refused to leave me until I verified I was at the right place. It is set back from the road and looks exactly like the Overlook from the Shining. I never saw another person the few days I was there, there is NO food after breakfast-and vending machines that wouldn't take dollars. The carpet was disgusting and the toilet was actually clogged when I arrived. This is like a roadside motel where nightmares live. There are so many choices (and lots of low prices) in Orlando -stay ANYWHERE but here.
Room and no refund
The place is awful it smelled there was no air on no restaurant no nothing rooms are nasty and dated u definitely get what u paid for yuk I didn’t stay upon checking with my daughter who is a front line worker this was a little getaway for us booked thru tickets at work here in Michigan super disappointed they wouldn’t give us our money back the place is awful
A little dated but nice nevertheless
We got a great rate on this room for a quick trip to the International Guitar Show. The room was clean and comfortable. The facility could use a facelift, but we had no complaints. We did not try the restaurant in the morning for breakfast because we had to head out early but it looked like it would have been good.
Decent hotel with Groupon
Picked up a Groupon otherwise would’ve booked somewhere else. Outside grounds look like a construction zone. Pictures of the hotel can be a little misleading as it looks like a brand new or updated hotel which we didn’t feel accurately represented it. Room is decent nothing fancy. Might book again but only if the Groupon deal was available.
Ok but not recommended
This place is odd. It looks modern but pay attention to the details and it's very dated. I get a China ghost hotel feel from it. It's feels out of place, looks like the real thing, but not quite. Rooms are spacious and mostly clean though mine had a couple issues. Let's hit the run down. Tl;DR spacious rooms with terrible beds/pillows some cleanliness issues and so-so location. Check In - so this hotel doesn't seem to have a proper front entrance. I followed the signs and came in what eventually turned out to be a conference drop entrance. It's like the front drive up was never built. Girl at the desk was quite friendly and check in was easy. Parking - in the rear and looks quite dated and somewhat unkempt. Secure your valuables as this lot has a 80s horror movie vibe about it. Parts are well lit others might have baddies hiding in the shadows. Not a long walk back to hotel, but not short either. If you have ambulatory issues you should know there is quite a it of paver work and some uneven surfaces. Room - spacious, looks good at first glance. Then I noticed there were plastic cups on the floor under the chair and behind the desk. We had to call housekeeping to change sheet because there was a stain on one. The duvets were the same color but different patterns. There was a Sony Dream Machine CD Player on the night stand (hello 1990 it's nice to see you again). The fixtures (phone, smoke alarm, etc) look 30 years old like this place was fitted 2nd hand. The cushion on the chair has seen much better days. For some reason there is a wireless access point mounted behind the desk but not powered. We got double beds (I must have made a mistake selecting) though there is plenty of space for queens. Fridge/Safe/Coffee maker in room. Beds - in a word, terrible. They are old spring mattresses with pads on top. If you are sleeping alone you might be fine. But sharing these beds is not a good idea. Every move is amplified by the dated spring mattress technology. Pillows are like dollar store sponges in that they look like they'll do the job, but you regret the instance you have try using them. Bathroom - spacious and clean. I somehow ended up with only a face bar and 2 bottles of shampoo/conditioner. 1 of the bottles was partially used. There were 3 towels so I had to call down for more as we were a party of 4. Shower is decent. Water remains hot though pressure is lacking just a bit. Front Desk - as I mentioned I had to call a couple times and they were friendly and maintenance staff were very quick to respond with towels and sheets. Wifi - 7mpbs down/20mbps up @ 8am. Easy to connect to open network in room. TV - looks to be about 42" LCD. Typical channel selection. Ours didn't work very well, lots of artifacts, flickering and color issues. Not a big deal for us as we don't use it. Environment - it was very quiet at night and again had kind of an off/empty feel about it at night. About 7am the noise picked up. I'm guessing everyone heading to the parks. Better than a lot of other places I've stayed in Orlando. Location - so this is not a walking hotel. You'll likely want/need car or ride share. Plenty of places to eat on Central Fl Pkwy (about 2-3 miles). It's on the south side of I Drive so away from the traffic, congestion and noise. There is currently some construction across the street but I found this place quieter than other higher occupancy hotels on I Drive. Pool - looks pretty nice though I haven't visited. It's too cold today. Nice size pool area though sparse with chairs/loungers. Common area chairs have been through the wars. The cushions look like all their usable life has been drained out of them. I'm writing from the room after 1 night. If anything changes, I'll update. All in all this is just short of 3 stars. Better beds and pillows would have put this solidly on 3.5 stars. Sort out the weirdness vibes and minor cleanliness issues and you get closer to 4 stars. This is actually a decent place but I can't recommend it. You can get better beds and better location on heart of I Drive for similar price. I likely won't stay here again.
