Clean and comfortable oasis - great place to stop over

Reviewed 19 october, 2021

Our first stay on the way south from Scotland. Reception was bright and airy and the greeting warm and sincere. The room was clean and comfortable and everything thoughtfully arranged. The bar area is spacious and lovely to see a real fire on a grey damp evening We dined in the room; the food and service was excellent. After the M74 this is a real oasis, with helpful friendly staff in a very well maintained hotel. Definitely a stop over on our next trip south.

With a fridge in the room, it would be even better

We stayed twice on the way to and from Scotland and had rooms 61 and 63, both Crafted Plus rooms on the second floor. Very comfortable room. There was no refresh service but they left a bag with towels, tea and coffee and loo roll outside every day, so not really a problem. The Wi-Fi was mostly good. Breakfast was a good full English, with tasty bacon and an excellent sausage, but the quantities of food varied daily! We ate in the restaurant just the once, at a nice window table. Orders were taken promptly and we shared the bread and chive butter/olive oil to start then had the burger and Herdwick lamb with dauphinoise potatoes: the lamb was delicious, the burger good. With two Tirrell's beers and a small Pinot Grigio the bill was £56

Another pleasant stay

This is just ideal driving distance from our home in Scotland to arrive in time for a look round the excellent farm shop and settle into a cosy room before dinner. Pretty busy, but great service as always and lovely food. We would recommend the lamb, tender and succulent and also the good local cheeses. We always sleep well here, as it is so peaceful in spite of being so near the M6. Keep up the good work!

Great hotel with friendly staff

Reviewed 14 october, 2021

We had stayed here previously and were pleased to see that it had not post any of its appeal. The hotel is very well appointed. What sets it out is the staff who are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and it prides itself on sourcing local produce. We plan to stay again soon.

Excellent experience

Reviewed 12 october, 2021

Having frequently stopped at the motorway service cafe and looked at the hotel with interest, we spent one night in the hotel. Our experience was excellent. The room was a good size, clean and we felt safe in it. Our evening meal was very good - well served and cooked with a good choice - as was breakfast. We had a dog with us, and I think this offered us the best experience in a hotel with a dog we have had. Staff were friendly, helpful, and very understanding. Although conveniently located to break the journey between Scotland and England, the location is excellent for a more prolonged stay - close to the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, but walking out of the back of the hotel site you are quickly in a very attractive walking area. It is expensive compared to the usual motorway hotels (Days Inn, Travelodge, etc.) but having of necessity in the past had to stay in these places, the experience is incomparably better. We strongly recommend it.
