Comfortable, Clean and Convenient
We stayed as a family at this property, and were upgraded to a two bed apartment which was clean, comfortable and well maintained. The check in process is via self service in another building which is a 5 min walk. If you have large luggage I recommend you leave it at oscarsgate 86 property and walk down to Skovien 8 to check in as the way back will be uphill for about 50 metres and will be difficult to drag large luggage. There is a supermarket within 5 mins walk which sells most things you will need to make your own breakfast, or cook a meal as eating out is expensive in Norway. The nearby 7-11 also sells tram/bus tickets and decent ready to eat food which is also reasonably priced. The Tram/Bus stop is about 5 min walk from the property and you can reach the City in 10-15 mins and its very convenient and cheaper way to travel as Taxis are very expensive. There is no reception onsite, but towels, sheets, toiletries etc u need are left on a cart near the main entrance so you can access them. There is a Washing Machine in the bathroom, which has instructions in Norwegian (english would be helpful) and you have to buy your own washing powder. There is a dishwasher in Kitchen but only 1 tablet is provided, so if u are staying more than a day u need to buy dishwasher tablets (property should provide a few) Overall we would stay here again if we visited Oslo and recommend this property to other travelers
Would stay again. Peaceful Oslo stay.
Pros: - Location: (Walking) The Royal Palace (11min), Frogner Park (16min), Rådhuset (16min), The Vigeland Museum (18min), Karl Johans gate (20min). - Bathroom amenities: Soap bar, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer. - Free in-room WiFi (though fairly slow speeds, approx. 9Mbps, and low signal in bedrooms). - Excellent soundproofing, very quiet. - Clean & comfortable, in a great zone with easy public transport connections. Would stay again. Cons: - The bottom of the shower doors need to be revised. Water covered the entire bathroom floor with each use of the shower. - Storage in the kitchen was minimal. No cupboards or bench space to store any food that you bought. - Whilst the apartment was generally clean, when you pay for cleaning, one would expect that they would remove the rubbish from the bins and mop up the water on the bathroom floor, however, this didn’t happen. Also, it was not appreciated that the cleaners enter the room at 09:00 on the morning of departure, when you are showering & packing, to ask if they can enter to start cleaning, when check-out is at 11:00.
Great area and accommodation
Check in is at another building 3 minute walk away. Be sure to a drive before 9 pm. Our 2 bedroom apartment had 2 baths in a very well kept unit. The area has a wide variety of restaurants and coffee shops within a few minutes walk, and a 7 11 which sells tram/bus tickets which will make you anywhere in Oslo easily. Very comfortable bed, and heated floors in bathroom when the light is on. There's a small washing machine in one bathroom, but it was difficult to use without directions in English (not anything like our washers) and there was no detergent, altho there was for dishwasher. I asked if the check in location sells detergent, but they don't, not did the 7/11. So bring your own tablet or go ins search of a big bottle! I would stay here again.
Don't order the breakfast.
The apartment was great, although the floor in the basement had lifted in a few spots. It would be a great place for extended business travel. The pre-ordered breakfast sounded great on the menu (there's only one choice) and was a little pricey but we ordered it anyway. We were quite underwhelmed when it arrived in the morning. It was a cold tasteless sandwich of avocado between two pieces of bread, a poppy seed roll, an underripe nectarine, orange juice and instant coffee and a tea bag. The roll was the only relatively good item. I'd recommend staying here, but go to one of the nearby cafés or make your own breakfast.
A very messy check in lead eventually to a good result
I had originally booked an apartment on Arbins gate and had to check in at Skovveien. When checking in the machine offered me another address than the one I had booked. I took my luggage and went looking for my apartmet soon noticing that my keycard just didn't provide me access to any at the given address. After a few phone calls I was informed that my apartment indee is on Arbind gate. So, there I went up to the fifth floor just to learn that the entrance to my apartment was in the backyard. I dragged my luggage to the other entrance finally finding the designated apartment, but .... This 'studio apartment' was actually much smaller that a standard hotel room with no possibility to hang up your clothes. I gave the nice receptionist Camilla a call again expressing my deep dissatisfaction. She promised to try to find a better apartment for me and on top of that she offered to pick me up. Eventually I find myself in a very nice apartment at Oscars gate 86.
