Poor

Reviewed 19 march, 2023

Poor from start to finish. Booking email said we could check in from 2pm, on arrival we were told it was 3pm not as stated in the email. Meal service very slow, additional potatoes and gravy arrived when the whole table had finished their meal. Breakfast also disappointing, having to ask for glasses for the juice, food running out and what was left was cold. The mattress on inspection had a large piece of foam on top of it. Confusion over the bill. The list goes on.

Disappointed

Reviewed 17 march, 2023

Very poor. Loud music from the function room below. Staff seemed uninterested and we had to ask for everything from cutlery to bread to toast at breakfast. Cleanliness in the restaurant left a lot to be desired when the previous evenings food was still under the table at breakfast. The location looks impressive from the outside but lacking inside. Wouldn’t return.

Standards far below expected

A 3 night stay in a family room which was above the function room. The noise was horrendous it was like being in the function. The music and noise went on til 1am. The hotel should not use this room when a function is on especially with young children. Complained to hotel manage who refused point blank to refund for the one night out of the three what we requested. The manager was extremely rude and unprofessional. I agree with other reviews the staff in the restaurant have zero customer service skills. At breakfast we had to ask each day for items that hadn’t been refilled such as bread. Very poor experience the hotel looks nicer than it is on the pictures. The highlight was the evening meal we had at the fox and coney in the village it was outstanding. They also do accommodation wish we would have stayed there instead. In conclusion a very overpriced unfriendly experience!

Family and Dog stays at Cave Castle

Reviewed 10 march, 2023

We booked two rooms for one night, one being a dog friendly room. The reception greeting was poor with a set of don’ts so not a good first impression eg the dog friendly room wasn’t ready at 2.15pm and yet we had the rules on children swimming eg only between 12 and 3 pm. We therefore couldn’t swim as hoped with our granddaughter. Food we were told would only be available in the restaurant/ coffee shop by the Spa. We arrived to be told no tables . So no food or options given. Luckily I had reviewed the hotel and there was a golf clubhouse. Went here very welcoming and helpful, with decent food and atmosphere plus welcomed dogs. As we were not impressed with hotel reception we decided to book the dinner elsewhere and had a great meal in South Cave. Breakfast service was at best ok with poorly trained staff who had no idea about engagement with guests or service. Good ok. Bill settles but excess taken by the hotel still outstanding and not repaid after more than two weeks. The main house is attractive but the hotel is under resourced and poor value and service. We certainly look elsewhere next time we visit our family.

Great short break

Reviewed 27 february, 2023

Arrived at Cave Castle Sunday afternoon for a golf/spa break. The young man on reception was not particularly welcoming or helpful. However all other staff we met were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Special mentions to restaurant staff Sunday night and Monday morning, golf pro Monday morning, leisure centre receptionist and catering staff in golf club Monday lunch. Rooms were comfortable, clean and well resourced (iron, ironing board, tea coffee facilities etc.) Continental and cooked breakfast available (cooked to order) great quality. Dinner wasn’t great not a good selection, starters tasteless, lukewarm food, chicken overcooked, bubble and squeak looked and tasted like it had been regurgitated , some accompaniments over salted. Puddings were good however. Spa treatments very good big thank you to Anna. Golf was very enjoyable good course. Motorised buggy’s would be an improvement. Everyone we met in the golf club was very friendly. Lunchtime food in the golf club was delicious and excellent value for money. Will come back but not for dinner.
