More about the hotel
Good Budget Choice
This is a pretty good budget motel in the uptown section of Pagosa. Near lots of dining options as well as banks and groceries. My room had a fridge and microwave and the facility had a pool, hot tub, and outdoor patio and gazebo. During Covid, no breakfast. But if you ask, the desk clerk will set you up with coffee, cream, and a packet of muffins. The access is on the frontage road to the 160 about 4 miles from the downtown.
Nice One Night Stay
We were here one night during a recent vacation. Check in was quick and our room was large, comfortable and clean. Due to Covid-19, breakfast was packaged foods. The area behind the motel for smokers was large and well appointed. Convenient location right on Hwy 160 but our room was quiet. Would stay here again when in the area.
Uncomfortable Beds
This place is decent with a basic breakfast (with delicious waffles!), nice courtyard, and is pet-friendly. Full disclosure: the beds are uncomfortable. Period. There was just a sheet and thin blanket; had to ask front desk for a comforter in the middle of the night which was odd because it was winter time! We were looking forward to the pool and hot tub only to find it doesn’t even open until 3pm so we couldn’t use it because check out was at 11am! It would have been nice to soak my body in the morning after that terrible-nights sleep. I recommend investing an extra $20 in a place with better value. Front desk staff seems pretty unhappy, though they are accommodating. They were kind enough to give a small discount for the poor nights sleep we had.
Fall Trip
We have stayed at this hotel for many years now and our stays have always been ok. Nothing great but not bad either that is until this stay. We were checked in without any problem but when we arrived at our room we found some crumbs on the bed which led us to inspect the bed a bit closer where we found a small amount of blood on the sheet like from a cut. Upon further inspection of the bed we found the sheets to be wrinkled like they weren't ever changed. I went to the front desk and reported our findings and was immediately assigned a new room on the first floor. The new room must of been on the dog wing because we had dogs in the rooms on both sides of us not to mention one of the rooms left there fan on all night as to drowned out noise so the dogs wouldn't bark. No sleep for us this night. Breakfast was really a joke. We showed up for breakfast around 0730 and the only other people in the small breakfast room were a couple of hunters. The coffee was empty, and the choices for food was either yogurt, hard boiled eggs, toast, or a waffle. The breakfast has never been that great at this hotel but never this bad either. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Bad experience all around. We won't be back. We would rather pay more and have a good night sleep and a fair breakfast.
Room for improvement
Was pleased to receive the first floor room we had requested. The room was a good size. Furniture was in good condition. Micro and ref. appeared to be newer. We found it a little odd that there was wood laminate flooring throughout instead of carpet. I personally prefer carpet. I just think the laminate makes it look cheap. Bed was a little bit hard and low to the ground. The sink was outside of the bathroom and had adequate space for your toiletries. The light over the sink was too low and needs to be raised. The bathtub had some kind of patching on the bottom, I think it would be better to replace it. The towels were thick enough, but the washcloths were thin. I guess we were lucky that we got checked in. The desk clerk was AWOL most of the time. We needed another towel but made several trips to the desk before he showed up, even after ringing the bell. Then we ran out of tissues, and again had to wait a long time for him to return to the front desk. So obviously, this place needs another employee. You had to resign into the wifi every time you closed and reopened your computer, which was quite annoying. At nearly every other motel we stayed at on our two week road trip we stayed signed in to the wifi the entire time we were there. Breakfast was rather meager, you'll probably want to eat out.
