Center of attraction
The hotel we stayed has no view but the room is clean. Basic amenities provided and the pillow provided is 4 instead of 2 like most hotels in this category. They provide free coffee outside the room which is near the balcony area. It is a place to stay and its safe, surrounded by many restaurants and other small hotels. Recommended for family too.
Affordable Downtown No frills Hotel
Rooms are spacious, looks clean. There is free wifi, with repeaters on each floor. In the room there’s A/C, a ceiling fan, a TV, a dresser table and some wooden chairs. Some reviews mention dirty water and a funky smell. There is a slightly funky smell which you’ll get used to so it’s not a big deal. Water from the faucet was not that dirty in my opinion, probably depends on the supply. In each floor there is a common area where you can fix yourself free coffee and tea. Each floor has a balcony area, the 3rd to 4th floors have a great view of the bay. There is no elevator, only stairs. There’s intermittent power interruptions (not the hotel’s fault). For those times, there’s a generator that usually kicks in, you won’t be able to use the A/C but the ceiling fan should work. Location is great. Walking distance to the pier where boat tours start, lots of restos around, located centrally downtown. There is a small ref in the lobby where you can buy mineral water, but there are small convenience stores outside also. We usually leave the keys in the lobby when going out. We stayed 3 nights, rooms weren’t proactively cleaned while we were gone. It didn’t matter to us since we weren’t really messy, but some people might be looking for regular room cleanups. Prices are affordable. View at the top floor is great.
Dirty water
Pros: in the center of the town, very near to the restaurants. The rooms are big. We requested an extra mattress and they forgot to put it in our room and tried to charge it on us. Cons: Dirty water and brushed my teeth using their tap on my first day! Ewwww Old beddings.
Save your money, stay in a tent instead
The fan switch in our room caught on fire at 3am. The air con doesn't work. The hotel staff wouldn't let us borrow the phone to call the hospital when I got sick. They were also very rude and never acknowledged us. We spent our 2nd last night in hospital in El Nido, that was better accomodation than Garnet Hotel.
