More about the hotel
Relaxing stay
Loved this hotel! Had a great time with our family and friends. Loved the garden rooms! Enjoyed the peace and quiet and the escape from the city. Breakfast was also good. The place is very accessible, walking distance from the Historical Center.
Beautiful garden hotel
Our room was a spacious semi-detached casita with comfortable bed. The hotel is surrounded by a beautiful garden with a lovely pool. Good breakfast. In a quiet area but also just a short walk into town centre.
Nice garden, and?
As I wrote - nice garden, swimming pool with a bit 'sticky' water and some leaves in the bottom. Breakfast good but nothing special. Bungalows... well... it is difficult to find your bungalow hence the reception has no map, there is no indication on the path and some of the doors have no numbers. If you have a bag with wheels - you'd better carry it if you do not want to loose the wheels on the stony paths. Interior of bungalows - humid, and bathrooms inhabited by some spiders and other "multi-leg pets" :) If you do not like this kind of pets - do not look under the sink :p
Wish I Booked Somewhere Else
Miserable 6 days in a miserable dark, cheaply furnished nasty room Hostle type metal bed, old fashioned TV from about 30 years ago. Shower room basic and dirty no toiletries except two bars of soap. Have to pay for safe $R5.00 a day was told 4 but was charged 5. The pool is bad, in photo's on site looks lovely but surrounded by old cracked tiles that are never cleaned or fixed. Pool is never cleaned full of leaves. No pool towels or pool service, no bar or any drinks or snacks. Breakfast is alright usual Brazilian fare but the room it is served in is too small not enough tables and waiting staff very miserable never speak or smile. The grounds however are beautiful and I have to say WIFI signal good. This hotel charges an awful lot per night as do most of Paraty Pousadas over the festive period. However the difference between them and this property is that I get the feeling that the owners don't want to spend any money to make this hotel comfortable for it's guests. Everything about it is cheap no money spent to make it nice. Also reception never anyone there always have to shout for someone to come. This place could be wonderful it is in beautiful surroundings close to centre but sadly very dated and unloved.
Very Disappointing/Awful
Where do I start on this Hotel. We arrived about 5pm in a very heavy thunderstorm, reception was okay quick and easy. However that was until the receptionist came from behind desk with two old and broken umbrellas took one for herself and gave the other one to my husband, we were then told to follow her to the chalet. So here we are in the pouring rain each dragging a suitcase on an uneven path in about 5 centre metres of rain water and mud. Our chalet was the farthest one away and at the entrance was a pool of water about 10 centre meters deep and we just had to walk through it good shoes or not. When in the room we were both soaked through, remember I was not given an umbrella and my husband abandoned his as completely broken. When inside the room I couldn't believe the state of it. You could call it rustic charm or just a cheap and nasty building housing equally cheap and horrid furniture starting with a small cheap double bed. Two bedside tables which were not bedside tables but metal frames with a broken slate laid on the top. Two cheap bedside lamps that looked like they were purchased 1976 and the lead too short to plug into the socket. There was two dirty nasty mats on the floor which served no purpose at all. The only other piece of furniture in the room was an old replica Portuguese type chair originally painted white, well all I can say about that was it was filthy, about 20 years of ingrained grease all over the arms and back of it. There was a so called home built wardrobe, again rustic, housing a safe, which by the way is not free $R4.00 a day. Also an assortment of left overcoat hangers, obviously donated by previous guests. There was the a old domestic fridge in the room again dirty and unloved. Shower room would not have looked out of place in a hostel or campsite block. Nasty tiles and concrete and dangerous glass entrance to shower. No toiletries except for two bars of soap, I will say we did have hot water at all times. All the wood in the room is dark and with only two low bulbs the room was very dark making reading very hard. The thick heavy curtains were awful and needed washing. However the thing that made us both speechless was the TV, about 25 years old and so small no bigger than the the average I Pad. No international channels at all. Uncomfortable and unpleasant room, we have had much much better in much cheaper hotels in the past. Remember this room is costing $200+ A Night. As others have said the grounds are beautiful but the pool again old and unloved. Dangerous tiles around the edge broken and uneven, dirty loungers, no pool service. Unloved games room. The bar area doubling as a breakfast room is a completely redundant, in fact what it is there for I don't know, no drinks or food available. Breakfast was okay the usual fare for a Brazilian breakfast, but spoilt by the waiting staff, so miserable, bringing out fresh supplies and clearing tables with no smiles or greetings. I know this is a very long review but I feel it is the truth. This is NOT paradise or the best place in Parity. It is very expensive and offers nothing more than a cheap hostel could provide. Come on the management of this Pousada you need to update this property spend money on each room, update the pool, provide more service. We couldn't wait to leave. I have posted some pictures to prove my point. ....
