Better when Holiday Inn

We stayed at this location for the 2nd time-also before a train voyage to Bordeaux. I enjoyed the Holiday Inn stay better than the Voco stay. We were given one of the best rooms in the house: Room 809. We got a great rate and did not add breakfast since the amount was outrageous for 2 buffet breakfasts so we just got something before our train trip. We were warmly welcomed and checked in. I had a rate that was paid a week or so in advance so I was only charged a deposit for incidentals, which was fully refunded the next morning. The room was a decent size with a view of the buildings across the street so noisier than our cemetery view the first time. Breakfast was also more reasonable so we had it the first time. My main issue with the room was the lack of air conditioning. It was mid-October but very muggy so we had to open the window to cool the room off before sleeping. Why an IHG brand hotel turns off the air (especially this early with climate change issues) is a mystery to me??? They need to at least leave the fan on for air circulation. That would have been better than nothing! I did enjoy the tub, which also included the shower, a separate toilet area, and the sink. Last time, there were some items in the minibar, free for my status, but this time, nothing. I realize that this is due to COVID, but they could give something such as a few bottles of water and snacks to offset this. They do give welcome points, but I had to email them about this a few days later, and they did post them almost immediately! I would stay here again if I had an early train at the Gare Montparnasse, but I thought the VOCO chain was something more than the average Holiday Inn. In fairness, this was my first and only VOCO to date. It still should be a Holiday Inn, in my opinion, because I didn't feel like I was in a "special" boutique hotel??
Fantastic location for exploring

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights recently and were not disappointed. Upon arrival at 11am we checked in and requested to leave our bags until the room was ready but amazingly they allowed us to check in early which was a lovely touch. The hotel was clean, modern and the room a good size for the entry level. Staff were friendly and helpful. There are several metro stations nearby so it’s easy to get around Paris. The only negative for this hotel was that the rooms were extremely hot, we did have the air con on but it didn’t seem to help so we ended up having the window open in the room which was extremely noisy. Overall a good stay and perfect when your on a city break exploring Paris.
Excellent - but with some unwelcome neighbours

Very comfortable room - and bigger than average for Paris. Excellent shower in well-equipped bathroom. Big TV with many channels. Nespresso machine chocolates and biscuits provided. Very helpful staff. Pleasant public areas with plenty of chairs. Did not try the breakfast. Location just right for us as we were making day trips from Momtparnasse station which is three minutes walk away. But... Immediate area not great. Not dangerous or threatening, but seedy sex shops and rough sleepers much in evidence

We recently stayed at the voco Hotel Paris-Montparnasse for three nights. On the positive: The hotel is new, with great design, the breakfast is awesome, and the location convenient. Also very quiet guest rooms on the courtyard side (It faces the Montparnasse Cemetery…). On the negative: One evening we came back late to the hotel. The front doors were locked and there was no staff present. We had to wait for fifteen minutes for the clerk on duty to show up and open for us, without even apologizing. During this time many drunk guys passed by the hotel. We were two men and they did not bother us. Would the situation have been the same for a single person or a woman waiting? I reported the incident to the front desk lead the following morning but she did not seem to see the potential hazard and possible liability for the hotel. Recommendation to IHG: Install a door opener using the guest room keys so guests do not end up stranded. Recommendation to possible guests: Come back to your room before the night staff shift or book another hotel while IHG figures out how to guarantee the safety of the guests.

Location is perfect for restaurants and bars. We walked to the river most days and it took about 35-45 minutes admiring the views. The Gaité metro station is literally outside the door if you prefer (line 13) Rooms are bigger than most in Paris and cleaned daily. Would definitely recommend
