Generally OK
We stayed at the Relais de Lilas recently for one night. The Relais is located on the Parthenay ring road and is not, in my opinion, walking distance to the town. The initial impression is favourable. We were met at reception by a young man who was very helpful with check-in and advice. we were allocated Room 45 which is some way from the reception. First impression of the room was OK, it appeared to be clean and in good decorative order. We did wonder why the roller blinds were down. The reason soon became clear! The patio door window could not be secured, indeed the locking mechanism was non existent, broken and not repaired I guess. The bathroom, although fully functional and clean, was rather dated. As the building is located away from town, we decided to eat dinner in the restaurant. I am very pleased to say that it was a great meal, well prepared, presented and served. The best steak I've had in a long time! We found that the wifi was very unreliable. Maybe we were to far from the router location (reception)? Breakfast was good with the usual continental breakfast fare. For our one night stay, the restaurant and the service outweighed the disappointing aspects of the room.
Could be better
Firstly let me say that the owner is a really nice gentleman, always pleasant, happy and ready to help. I think his partner needs to take a leaf out of his book. When I first checked in I found her to be rather cold. By the morning she had cheered up but sadly first impressions last. I was left to find the room by myself which I found to be tired and in need of some refurbishment and decorating. The restaurant was very pleasant and again the staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was adequate and good. Please spend some money on the rooms it lets the place down.
Good for stopover
A basic hotel but clean, tidy and a friendly staff/manager. Ideal edge of town hotel for stopping over and visiting the beautiful town. Rooms could do with being modernised. Important to book breakfast in advance as they only have enough food for pre-bookers.
Hilarious !
The hotel is clean and everything works but it is drab and dreary. We returned there after dinner elsewhere and decided to have a drink. The Managers husband was in charge and we ordered two large red wines. As he was pouring one for himself, he asked if we both smoked which we do ! Suddenly two ashtrays appeared as he lit up himself and we all enjoyed several drinsk together. My wife asked him about Brexit. He said that he didn't care and wanted 'Frexit' which surprised us a bit. We then carried on drinking until 1.30 am by which time he was larroped ! The next morning his wife, clearly blaming us for her husband coming to bed comatosed and also the whole of the ground floor of the hotel reeking of stale cigarette smoke, full ashtrays and empty wine glasses was not happy. Her retribution was to forget every word of English that she could speak the previous day ! I highly recommend this place however. It is not close to anywhere worth going to and one needs this sort of thing to cheer a stay up. I am glad that we stayed there and would definitely go back as I have not had such an amusing evening for years !
Last train to Clarksville
This would be compared to a Holiday Inn type place in England but the quality just wasn't there. It desperately needs a good make over. Firstly it was on the edge of twon on a busy roundabout and a busy, long road awaits you if you tried to walk into town. Rooms were average at best although the shower was OK. Breakfast was average and totally lacking inspiration. It was just not great and as I said could do with a huge makeover .....Sorry
