Warm welcome and comfortable night
We were touring France and Spain, and we had a very enjoyable night at this hotel. On arrival, we were given a warm welcome and shown where we could park free of charge. WiFi signal was a little slow when we were there. Good choice for breakfast. We would stay there again, if in the area.
Decent rooms and food
I was travelling by bike and arrived around 20:30. Good sized room on the 5th floor with a corner bath to soak away some of the aches. The restaurant accepted customers up to 21:30, and although limited choice it was well presented. The room, at the back of the hotel, was so quit that I slept for 10 hours!
Clean but lacking a few things
The hotel was clean and grand in a rather faded way. The room was spacious. But the bathroom had no door, only a glass partition (the separate WC did have a door). The shower in the bath could not be arranged to avoid spraying the floor. And there was no kettle, only a Nespresso machine, with no instructions; I couldn't get it to produce hot water that wasn't brown and coffee-flavoured. No proper cups either, only paper ones. The view from the room was of a back yard.
Excellent welcome and advice
We stayed for a few days in the center of the town (centre ville) at this address, and the rooms are very grand, in proportion! . . . Breakfast buffet also excellent, with lots of choices. Best of all was the desk staff. They loaned to us an umbrella (when our luggage was lost, en route) . . . they advised, on local restaurants (we loved Le Berry, on the Place Clemenceau, and then dined there every night of our stay), had our hair cut by Pascal at Le Petit Salon (around the corner, on Rue Gambetta), and loved the local scene. This hotel is only a couple of blocks away from the chic food halls (not to be missed). Staff highly intelligent and helpful, which made us feel very cheerful.
Clean but badly in need of updating
The Best Western Continental Hotel is well located, within convenient distance of many excellent restaurants, the Pau Chateau, and the Palais Beaumont. The staff are well trained, attentive, and helpful. Rooms are spacious. However, there is a general lack of maintenance and updating. Some tiles are cracked, carpets need cleaning or replacement, tile grout is stained, and the internet was out for four days. On the positive side, there is in-room coffee service, breakfasts are adequate, and there is a flatscreen tv (with only CNN in English).
