Well, this has been a lovely place to go to eat and drink Now, you are NOT WELCOME, unless you are planning to sit at a table and eat What a shame Would be lovely in summer, wonder if they'll us that we can't sit outside for a drink then!

Cosy Old Inn That Has Been Completely Refurbished

My wife and I arrived midweek for a 2 day stay. We received a very friendly greeting as soon as we arrived, and were well looked after by two members of staff, one of whom kindly brought our case up to the room. The building is very old, but has been completely refurbished. Our room and en suite facilities were immaculately clean, with large towels and toiletries provided. The double bed was very comfortable, and the room has an air conditioning unit. We enjoyed excellent food throughout our stay, nicely cooked and with generous portions. There is a good selection of wines, beers, lagers, spirits and liqueurs. On our last morning the chef did not arrive for work, which was unfortunate because the cooked breakfasts at The Angel are the best anywhere, but there were plenty of cereals, fruits, yogurts, croissants and pastries on offer, plus tea or coffee, so we were not too bothered. The Angel Inn ticked all the boxes for us - pleasant, friendly staff, superb accommodation, and delicious food. We look forward to staying here again.

Shocking service for extortionate cost!

I really want to score this higher because the rooms are stunning, comfortable and have everything you need in them. However, the service was absolutely shocking (on the accommodation side of things). Upon arrival we were left standing around not knowing where to go and when we did finally get acknowledged there was no proper welcome, nor any introduction to our stay and the facilities available. The “manager” checking us in was absolutely useless, had no idea what he was doing and left us feeling very frustrated. One poor staff member working in the pub had no idea where one of the guest rooms even was! Probably not his fault if he only works in the pub but the “manager” should know this information. For the price charged per night, I expected MUCH better service than what we received. Had this not been such a special occasion and such a big group of us staying I would have made a formal complaint regarding our stay. I chose not to so as not to spoil the occasion. The food was delicious in the pub, especially breakfast. Lots of locally sourced ingredients used which was great to see. Staff members working in the pub area couldn’t be more helpful and friendly so thank you to them. I would love to say I’d return/recommend this establishment however I’m sorry I just can’t.

Two day stay over in Petworth

The hotel is in a perfect situation for visiting Petworth House and the unique town. The room was comfortable and clean; comfy beds and good hot powerful shower. The staff were charming in the morning and during the day but in the evening they were tardy and quite offhand. The food was excellent but it took a long time to arrive. I booked my table for 7.30 which is as late as I want to eat in the evening but my first course did not arrive until 8.15. As I was travelling on my own I did at times feel overlooked! I would stay again and would hope that the owners do something about the evening staff. Also it is very noisy late at night but I did have a room above the front door; I am not sure whether it was locals or staff leaving who were making the noise.

We came to the Angel with my grandparents recently and were totally appalled by it. We came for lunch on the 18th June as a table of 4. We hadn’t booked but were very pleased that the pub could accommodate us as it was very busy. The food we had was very nice but I’m afraid the positives stop there. We waited 15 minutes for a menu and then a further 15 minutes for our order to be taken including our drinks. My partner had to go and ask for a menu and ask if we could order, incredibly annoying. We considered having desserts but as the service was so slow we decided against it. To my absolute horror , as my partner and I stood at the bar waiting to pay for our meal we heard a female member of staff screaming furiously from the kitchen using the words im embarrassed to write “you’re a F**king C word” Absolutely vile language. Totally unacceptable! Needless to say we won’t be coming back.
