Charming hotel, fun neighborhood
The first thing you notice when you are at the front desk is the nifty painting of independence hall. The person at the front desk was so pleasant, efficient and cheerful. The room was lovely and the bathroom didn’t look at all like a hotel bathroom - it had great wallpaper! The complimentary breakfast was excellent and substantial! There were three tiny glitches, but they were dealt with instantly. I’d go back in a minute!
Cute Boutique
I was in town for a short stay a few weeks ago and upon a recommendation from a friend I decided to stay at the Independent. The hotel was adorable! beautiful rooms and such a welcoming experience. Not to mention walking distance to so many great places downtown. Its literally in the middle of everything. India, the girl at the front desk, was so charming as she checked me in and gave me so much advice about where to go and where to eat. I really felt like the staff went out of their way to treat me like a respected friend, which combined with its location and charm means I will be booking my next stay with this hotel.
Beautiful Hotel!
This gorgeous hotel is located right in the center of the gayborhood. You really can't do better as far as location! You're right next to a Patco stop which means easy access to anywhere in the suburbs and the rest of the city. There's fantastic food choices all around it was a delight to explore when we were there together. The room was gorgeous and well-kept, and the service was stellar! I was let to my room by India who gave us some recommendations as to where we should go and also brought us breakfast in the morning. The rest of the staff (hers was the only one whose name I caught, as we talked for an extended period of time) were also incredibly friendly as well. We were so happy to find a place where we could take our dog, but pleasantly surprised by how lovely the rest of the accommodations were. We will be returning here the next chance we get!
Valentine Surprise
Couldn't be happier with this hotel. Not only is it beautiful but the location can't be beat for the price!! As a 20+ year travel agent it's always nice to find a place I'd recommend to my clients and this place is a definite yes!! Love the atmosphere, location, staff, etc. Fabulous and romantic! The husband did good lol.
Hidden Gem of a Hotel in Downtown Philly
The Independent Hotel in downtown Philadelphia is a hidden gem of a hotel. We saw good reviews online and decided to book a room there for three nights in January. We arrived late one evening and the tiny nondescript entrance with a small black canopy and the closet-sized first floor entrance was concerning as we drove up (wasn’t sure what we were getting into) but once we figured out that the lobby is on the second floor and how you get up there, we suddenly realized how nice the hotel is. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and the room was big and well decorated. Only two concerns: the shower was one of those small plastic-molded, one-piece, cruise-ship type enclosed shower units and the HVAC controls were sometimes difficult to use because the words on the buttons had worn off. However, everything else about the room was very nice and a pleasant surprise, including the big comfortable bed and the large HD TV. The price was quite reasonable for downtown Philadelphia and we highly recommend it.
