More about the hotel
Not at the top of our list
We stayed here on a layover. Hate to judge a place during COVID conditions, but the biggest gripe is the layout of the place, We were given a room on the top floor at the front of the building, not realizing that this placed us a long way from the elevator. In the morning, we decided to get a luggage cart to reduce the workout. We were shocked to find that they required a deposit of a picture ID and credit card before they would give us one! This is the first place in the world we have ever stayed that had such a requirement. The room was OK, no complaints, well cleaned, but the water was dripping in the shower. The COVID breakfast was a box containing an assortment of goodies, including instant oatmeal, yogurt, a breakfast burrito, a small snack cake, and a few other items. The breakfast burrito was one of the worst breakfast items I've ever been served. After heating up in the room microwave, it was a pasty goo surrounded by cardboard tortilla, with a trace of hot sauce. Evidently, due to COVID, they have halted the airport shuttle, which was our reason for staying. They instead call a Lyft for you, which actually worked out better than the shuttle. Will stay here again if we have to, but not if we can help it.
Trip to Phoenix amid pandemic
We had a business trip to the Phoenix area and decided to stay at this property as it was halfway between the two venues where we had business. Upon arriving, Tj was very professional and handled our check-in within minutes. I noticed that the lobby looked very dated as I have stayed at luxury Marriotts and Sheratons as well as Fairfield Inns and hoped the rooms had been updated recently, but no such luck. I would have preferred a 1st floor room as I had recently strained my groin muscle, but the room was on the second floor adjacent to the stairs so it was pretty easy in and out. We arrived in our room and it reminded me of a Residence Inn that I stay in near the Capitol Bldg in Sacramento...exact same layout, but not upgraded EVER! Fridge, stove, microwave and all other appliances and TV worked fine. However, we did not have any towels, so I called down to the Front Office. A nice gentleman(without a mask) delivered 3 colored pool towels. I called TJ again around 3PM and he assured me that I would be delivered 2 full sets of towels in the morning. Upon on return at 4PM, no towels were delivered and I called again. This time, another man(again, without a mask) delivered 2 bath towels, 1 hand towel and 2 bathmats. At this time, we had decided to move across the street to the Holiday Inn Express. We were not happy. On Monday morning, I called down to the front office and Devante answered. He was polite and apologetic that we had no service and would make a list of our needs(at this time, we needed toilet paper as well.) Within 15 minutes, I had towels, toilet paper, paper towels, dishwashing powder, and garbage bags. If it weren't for Devante, we had every intention of moving to the Holiday Inn. This man should be commended for his excellent service and made an example of what an employee of the Marriott brand should be. Also, the maid service was not available because of the pandemic and Green service points were not available, too.
Ok
The room was nice and had a fridge, sink, microwave, dishwasher, a nice sitting area with large tv, and a work area as well as a comfortable bed. Breakfast was some prepackaged items you could request and they will put them in a box for you. Better than some hotels are doing, but not quite the hot breakfasts we've had in the past. I understand dealing with all of the covid issues is tough, and loosing a lot of business with less people traveling has really hurt business. Pool and hot tub were open, but you have to be let in by the front desk so they can monitor the number of people in there. The area the hotel is in is kind of on the edge of an industrial area. Not super convenient to find places to eat or pick up groceries, but that may have been my unfamiliarity with the area and knowing what was closed due to covid. Overall the hotel was fine.
Needs some work
We had a 2 bedroom suite, the room was definitely dated, the furniture was torn and worn out, the toilet in one of the bathrooms backed up, the windows would not open, the drains in the kitchen were slow, the water took a long time to warm up, the door did not properly lock and luggage carts were very difficult to find. There was a fireplace in the room but it was out of order. Nice pool and grill area outside, free parking. We had a full kitchen in our room. It was an okay overnight stay and reasonable, but I would not chose to stay there again, there are several other hotels in the area.
Really disappointed with the stay, watch out for the paradoxes
We stayed as a family after a trip across the southwest that brought us to multiple properties. This was the last stop overnight because of an early flight out of the airport. The two great things about the property are the friendly and welcoming staff and the arrangement that the hotel management has with Lyft for complementary transportation to / from airport and car rental. This was really helpful in returning the car the night before so we could go straight to the flight the following day. But unfortunately the list of things that are not well with this property are longer. Its a dated property and not kept in good shape. Checked in around 8pm and the lobby carpet could have definitely used a good vacumming. I of course don't know when it was last vacumed but it definitely needed one. Going to our 2-BR location: the furniture was ripped in places. Edge of tub was rusted (or seemed like it) with blotches of brown. I don't know how a tub has rust like blemishes. Tub bottoms (both rooms) had black stains. Likely cleaned but probably from overuse has gotten permanent black marks. If replacing a tub is tough, than stain the thing. Battery for TV remote not working. Wasn't worth it to fix because we were leaving the next morning. I stayed at full service, luxury, as well as lower grade Marriott properties. But they were all clean and well-kept. Sadly , the quality of this property was well below any Marriott I have stayed in the past.
